Default Cam/Crank Alignment after 3mm HG

Hey just wanted to double check that this looks good since apparently the timing isnt going to be perfect after the 3mm HG

Everything looks good to me up top, I just dont know too much about all the different timing marks on the crank pulley.

Let me know if it looks good or needs to be adjusted, need a second opinion before I complete the install...

John

Where is the mark on the Intake Timing Gear? There should be a small indention. I think it might be off.

Thats exactly where it should be if you didnt clock the idler gear.

This is how mine is with the idler gear NOT clocked and it looks just like yours.

With it on the white crank mark.

With it on the red crank mark.

With it between the red and white crank mark.

I dont know, but hopefully he has the paint on the scribed line mark on the cam gear and maybe we just cant see the indention in the pic. If he has it marked correctly, he has it right, but if the white paint isnt on the scribed cam mark, he is way off.

^ the white marks on the cam were there from factory and were in the same position before I took it all apart. The hash mark is under all that factory white paint on the one side I did remove the pin from the idler and clock it but didn't get a whole lot of movement out of it as expected.

Last question, did you guys bother with the bolts that support the intake manifold? The two above the alternator seem like they need washers to make up the height change. And the one over by the brake booster line doesnt line up at all anymore...

Also I guess my oil will read lower on the dipstick now too? haha

Those are good questions and good observations, but I never had any issues getting any of the bolts or brackets to line up after the HG install. I think there is enough slop in the holes that you should be fine if you take your time and mess with it until you get them in. Pull the alternator and you'll have room to loosen all the bolts on the intake bracket and you should be able to adjust it enough to get all the bolts in without putting any unwanted torquing on the manifold when you tighten them down.

Another good observation on the dip stick. I never thought about that but youre right. It probably doesnt matter though if you still went ahead and filled the pan up to the max line.

^ I have the alternator already out but I think I may still discard the 2 bolts for that bracket because it is literally at least 3mm gap between the bracket and IM. Putting bolts in there without any spacer would definately put unnecessary stress on the head. I'll fool around the bracket by the brake booster line tmw and see how much play I can get with that one since it seems to be closer....

When you loosen the two bottom bolts on the intake bracket it wont give you enough movement to push the bracket flat up against the bottom of the intake? You could use a dremel or round file that will fit in the bottom bracket holes and elongate the hole some to give you the required movement you need.
