Thumbs up Can you replace Vortech FMU with AEM FPR?

Car has been running really lean ever since the Vortech sc was installed.
The previous owner had modified the FMU he had told me to give more fuel.
Well now I am running really lean and seems like that could be the cause. Somehow not getting enough fuel. Running like 17+afr's so super lean.

If the Vortech FMU is indeed faulty could I replace it with a different adjustable FPR? Or would it have to be the stock Vortech unit?
I am running the stock setup with no engine management or anything just the stock vortech electronics.

FMU and a FPR are different.

They do act very much the same as they increase fuel pressure by restricting the amount of fuel that is allowed to return to the tank, only the FMU uses a boost reference to raise full pressure by predetermined amounts via the disc that is in it, example 4:1, 6:1 etc meaning that for every 1 lb of boost it sees it will increase FP by 4, or 6 respectively. The FPR has a much smaller range of adjustment as it relies on vacuum and not boost to alter the FP, it is set to run its max pressure when vacuum is at its lowest (full throttle) and it runs at a decreased pressure when it is under vacuum.

A FPR has 1:1 ratio and the Vortech has a 10 or 12:1 pressure ratio

Do yourself a favor and get rid of the FMU and get it tuned properly.

For now though can I get a different fuel pressure regulator of some sorts or just stick with a Vortech one. Won't be getting it tuned right away. I will at some point in the spring most likely when I buy an AEM EMS.

Just have my car down right now so if that does turn out to be the issue would like to know if I have to buy another Vortech one or if I can get an adjustable one.

Get the correct FMU calibration kit from vortech, who knows what the previous owner put in the FMU.

Yeah so can I just get the calibration discs since I have the unit itself? If something were to go bad in it would it be one of the parts that the calibration disc would replace?

The previous owner said they had swapped out the internals for the comptech one or something like that to give more fuel but who knows.

So I guess the insides were all dented up and stuff so that should be the issue I was having with my car running lean as the boost increased.
Looking for one to buy now.

If you want mine, you can have it. I took it apart, and all the pieces are in a zip lock bag taking up shelf space (just wanted to look at it). You could use mine or just substitute the parts.

If you want it, I'll PM you my PayPal, $11.00 will cover delivery (USPS Priority Med box is $10.20).
