Cat Removal for a S/C setup any gains
Hi to everyone that i have not yet introduced myself to. I am finally gonna get my car back from vortech this coming week. needless to say i am extremely excited!!!!
The question i had was Vortech puts back on the car my stock exhaust and header. if i put my aftermarket header and also my exhaust would that make a significant difference??? And if i took off my Cat would i be on the road to HP gains???

There are plenty of S2k's running a SC without a convertor, and with non-stock exhausts. The SC installed has a much greater effect on AF ratios than removing the convertor.
That said, you won't be damaging the engine by removing the convertor. You will be harming the environment, but that is another topic.
Changing exhausts does effect the AF ratios, usually leaner at WOT. The stock exhaust is very efficient. There are several SC'd car making well over 300WHP with a stock exhaust system.

ok you guys say it will be leaner is that bad?? i am very new to the FI world. if i change my header and exhaust and take off the CAT converter how much more power will i see ? also am i gonna have to re tune my car? what damages if any will my car have or is it better to leave my cat on?? i really am soory for asking these questions that are kind of lame .. i really appreciate your guys's knowledge
The stock Vortech kit has no means to tune. Most of the Vortech Kit's I've seen run lean in boost at WOT. That said, there are plenty of them that have been installed for years, without a problem. Mainly due to the fact that they are not held at WOT for a long period of time. 10-15 second bursts at WOT won't melt the pistons like Autobahn top speed run for 2 minutes.
I ran a Toda header, test pipe and a Mugen exhaust on my Vortech. It was tuned with a E-manage and 440cc injectors.
I sold the SC, with the e-manage. When installed on a stock exhaust/header/convertor car, It ran much richer than my car. Almost 1-1.5 AF point richer. My car would run 12.5's, the other car would run 11-11.5's.
I'd reccomend sticking with the stock exhaust for now, as you won't have any means to tune by.
I'd be curious if you are getting the 00-03 Vortech that doesn't use a aux injector on the aftercooler, or the 04 kit that does.

Wait untill you get your car back, If they are using an aux injector it will have a controller for it. If Vortech stays with the Split second controller they used on the 00-03, you will only need the R4 software to retune.
