Smile catastrophic failure

hey all,
so i was driving home from a good, hard run through the canyons last night. On my way home(going about 70 on highway) all of a sudden i hear this sound from the engine bay that sounded just like your vaccum when it sucks up something it cant handle. i limped the car home and by the time i got there it sounded horrible(like something was being beatin around in it). i listen to the engine and the engine sounds fine, all the noise was coming from the vortech S/C, and it was loud and nasty!! i take off the inlet tubing to the impeller and find wat the pic shows, all the airfoils have been destroyed. so i ask if anyone has expierenced this and wat they did?? i also looked to see if it could have sucked up anything but there was no hole in filter or connections to the inlet!! i think the bearing went bad; by looking at the unit it looks like the impeller smashed into the houseing judging by the wear/break marks on the impeller. i could move the impeller up and down with my fingers about a 1/16". is there any kind of impeller upgrade to yield more power/efficiency?? it is a v2 vortech s/c with about 2k on it
lmk wat u think,
thanks for reading(srry i know it was long)
jonny
p.s.
i know my grammar and spelling and pic taking are bad btw

lol 12 psi should not turn that blower into a trainwreck. you need to get taken care of by them.

Doesn't hurt to ask. The worst they can say is "no".

I had similar failure of vortech V-2 unit one month ago. One of the highspeed bearings blowned and the impeller hit the walls. In my case the fault was because I overspinned the charger, and that caused the bearing failure.

If the vortech denies the warranty in your case, you should consider www.superchargerrebuilds.com. I ordered full repair kit and a billet impeller. I'm going to dyno next thursday, so we will see if it will gain more power or less. Otherwise the service from superchargerrebuilds were good, and the everything went fine with the repair. I think the vortech asks too much for bearings and impellers.

Vortech can rebuild it with a T-trim impeller and allow you to boost it up several psi.

How are you removing the pieces from your engine? Will you need a rebuilt engine?

THAT's my thought! Where did all the shrapnel go? I'm thinking the engine comes first here!
