I want to get a new clutch in my AP2 with a stock boost vortech. My stock clutch is slipping in my 2-3 and 3-4 shifts. I do not plan on upping the boost this summer, but I may(very slight chance) get the itch to change pulleys next year (perhaps around 350 to 375 HP max)
This car is not my DD, and I do not get caught in traffic often. I do shift hard through the gears each time I go out, but I do not launch the car.
Questions:
1)I am looking at competition clutch packages. Is their stage 2 kit enough to hold the SC power? It was suggested that if I felt that stage was not enough, I should go to the stage 4 kit. Does anyone have any experience with the competition clutch to offer me any suggestions. I will also get an ap1 (lighter) flywheel to help the SC performance.
2)I just installed the T1R limited 70mm exhaust. I love the way it sounds! I have a 70mm invidia test pipe to still install. I am concerned about the car running dangerously lean with the TP. I read stories about the comptech SC having lean issues with exhaust mods. My AFR was around 12:1 the last time I got the car dynoed with the cat on. The shop placed the sensor at the exhaust tip, so who knows how accurate it was. My vortech AP2 kit comes with a 5th fuel injector to keep the AFR correct, and so far it has worked very well. Has anyone installed a test pipe/single on an AP2 vortech and had problems with being too lean.
Stage 2 - Great for N/A to 300whp (long life and very streetable) - a bit more if you are S/C...about 350whp
Stage 3 - Great for 375whp-400 of abusive driving
Ironman - Holds over 500whp and can hold upto 600whp of repeated beatings. Extremely streetable for a puck style. Much easier on the drivetrain than most other puck styles as well.
Stage 4 - Holds about 450whp
Stage 5 - Holds upto potentially 600whp
I have the stage 3 competition now and I love it. Can be a little difficult from a stop but nothing horrible. Only way to tell with the test pipe is to put it in then dyno the car again and see where you stand.
I'm currently running a EMU, RC 550 with my setup. can't decide which exhaust to go with. I do have the 10 psi pulley installed right now, just need some time off from work to go to Socal and get this bish tuned.
