what are the negative side effects of running the puck style clutch over the disc. is it just the harshness of engagement or the likely of breaking parts like the diff or axles or what? i plan on having 500+ hp power eventually so i dont wanna skimp out on the clutch from what ive been told the stage 3 wont be able to hold 500+hp
anyone?

i have the competition ironman clutch and cc flywheel

i would say its very close to stock feel, harhness of engagement maybe alittle in 1st but its just like getting into a different car for the first time and finding out the clutch bite then your there so its not really that bad, after pulling away 3 or 4 times you get used to it

and i have driven it in london rush hour traffic stop start for over and hour , just to do 5 miles and it was fine, easy to live with

^ I got the same clutch/flywheel combo. I daily drive mine. Its really grabby in 1st. But you can slip it a bit, so not biggie. I have stalled a few times, though. Stock pedal feel, engagement point is at a good level, but the engagement threshold is small (from the beginning point where it starts to "grab" to the point where its fully engaged).

i had a 6-puck in my civic so i should be fine with driving it. i see phil has 600 hp, it doesnt slip at all?
whats the benefit of the ironman over the regular 6-puck? i see the regular holds more torque than the iron man, what would the ironman be good up to hp wise?

Clutches are generally rated in terms of torque, not HP. I believe Phil is at 380 lb/ft.

I think the Ironman is sprung for a more drive-able engagement. No as much of an "on/off" switch as a normal puck. You do get the puck chatter sometimes, though, but only when you slip it in stop-and-go traffic (or engaging from a stop on a large incline... that load produces some chatter). Its also a sprung disc (translates into smoother engagement, less drivetrain shock).

Its a nice puck-style clutch, IMO, for if you plan on driving the car anywhere other than the track...

Here is a review of it from this site:

that revuew says it is rate to only hold 500 hp, but phil says hes using it with 616 hp i wonder if he is slipping or could be right at the limit. i may want to get the 4 puck because i hope to get 700 hp eventually. the engagement feel between a 6-puck and 4-puck would be relatively the same? right?

Not sure. Never had a 4-puck.

Again, clutches are rated in terms of torque. In that review, he does talk about HP, but I don't think that is completely correct.

You might have an issue at 700rwhp, though... That is crazy power. That is almost 15% ON TOP of what Phil is running now.... 13.63% to an even 700. Phil is already running something close to like 300% the stock power through it.

Hope you have alotted $10k for a PPG gear swap... Stock tranny will probably not take that power for very long... InlinePro's 750rwhp car has a PPG tranny, and a fellow member went through 3 trannys at 550rwhp-ish (bstone84, I think is his name).... most people don't blow their tranny's at that power level, but he beat it at the track pretty regularly.

im not goin for 700 right away im going to boost the stock engine then eventually when a cylinder or a ring pops im build the bottom end. but ouch, 10k for a PPG gear swap in expensive as hell. i definatlely want to run my car at the track to see what it can do but not on a regular basis.

on a side note, all this damn christmas shopping is hurting my stash of money i had set aside for kpro

I am assuming you have budgeted the $1500 for a reinforced differential, as well (more for an r200/full puddymod rear, if you plan on ridiculous power)? Stock one will blow quickly, IMO, with a puck clutch and that much torque/power.
