Default Compression check = fail :)+ built block question

So i've noticed a loss in power since ive had the car and since im planning on going FI this winter I decided to do a compression check today. My heart almost dropped when i read the guage 145, 145, 145, 137. I rechecked the cylinder 3 times each but to no avail they came out the same everytime. Im guessing it's rings but tomorrow im going to do a wet compression check and a cylinder leakage test to finally determine whats what. So i guess its a great excuse to build the block like I wanted to but a little disheartening she does have right around 150K on her but I thought i would be around 190 ish, oh well. Built block and empty wallet here I come

Ohh yeah im pretty sure that perfect comp on these bad boys are like 235 but I figured due to how many miles shes got to be like 190 ish. But i was mistaken lol

Honestly, I am more concerned with consistency across the cylinders than the actual number.

I've seen several gauges read off.

Do a wet/comp test, and a leakdown, that will help you figure ouot if you have any issues.

The relatively close consistency leads me to believe its the rings rather than a valve but like I said i still have todo a wet compression test and a leakage test before coming to any final conclusions. Im kinda happy though it gives me insentive to go big or go home

Way too consistent I think you either didn't let it warm up or open the throttle ... or you have a combination of high altitude and 3mm headgasket or low comp. Piston

Thats a very good point I had her wide open but I was very stressed for time in the shop and now thinking about it she may not have been fully warmed up. Im hoping I have some extra time tomorrow and ill do another dry, wet and a leakdown. Thanks MTZ sometimes when your rushing things go right over your head lol

Warmed up or not it should be at least 220psi. I just did a compression check on an engine that had been sitting for YEARS not installed in the car, just applying 12v to the starter and we were reading around 240psi. Your gauge is most likely broken...

After 150K miles of hard use i wouldnt expect it to be at 220 nor would i expect to see 145 lol, done tons of cars with this gauge its usually dead nuts on compared to other gauges but anythings possible. Well see tomorrow
