Default Comptech ESM

Just wondering what would bad connections on the Comptech ESM do to the running of the car?

Hesitation, poor ability to accelerate, rough idle, missing.
You should look toward bad connections rather than faulty wiring.

hoping i understood the comptech ESM function
the Comptech ESM "hides" boost from the main ECU. If this is faulty, it will either block any signal to the main ECU, or allow full boost reading to go to main ECU.

the main ECU (OEM) will need the MAP sensor reading to be able to adjust fuel mixture accordingly,

I am not so technical so don't rely on me

ESM hides boost but not Air/Fuel ratio, just pressure.

THe ESM "tolds" to the ECU that absolute air pressure is 1 bar

xviper, had a little edit.

So if you had bad connections would it set off the malfuntion light?

Yes, it can. Quite a few ECU wires were cut and/or spliced into. If the signal is not getting through due to a bad connection, the ECU won't get the signal it needs or it won't get a signal at all.
Most of the Comptech issues in the past have been due to connections not being soldered. Originally, these connections were done by crimp connectors. Comptech have since advised to NOT use these and go with soldered connections.

Yes I did solder, I wouldn't win any prizes for the quality of soldering but I put plenty on so they will never come off.

I'm not having problems with the ESM, I just wanted to know what the symptoms would be.

Cheers for the answers, any more for any more.

More the better!

Im personally worried about my FMU being faulty, bit stuffed then as its a bit of surgery to go back to stock while its being fixed. Fingers crossed though!

At the price you got the whole kit for I'd be worried it was all faulty.
