Default comptech kit

i currently have about 3500 to buy a kit... im not looking to go crazy fast (300hp) is goal... i was looking at the stock CT kit that a local guy has for sale for 3k its the stock 5.5 psi pulley with ecu module and rise frp... i currently have a 76tar exhaust and berk header on the car will this suffice the 300 hp goal? hows the reliabilty will be a daily till tax return.. do i have to worry about running lean or anything with stock 5.5 psi? and how is the comptech module? would i gain any power with going with an aem ems down the road? (not looking forward to changing pulleys injectors ect. anything crazy just want stock kit with full exhaust maybe stand alone tune later for close to 300 hp just want feedback on you FI guys... before i make the transition from all motor to FI

Yes you will pretty much be at 300whp DynoJet. The base kit with the rising rate fpr and the supplied after cooler is very reliable. (Make sure it comes with an after cooler) the kit isn't safe, nor is it worth $3500 otherwise. Many have used this kit at this level for tens of thousands of miles and years with little issue. Keeping at this boost level, your not going to see much in peak gains with an AEM ems since your already running full OEM advanced timing. You will however benefit from being able to lower vtec a couple thousand rpm, but you can do this with several other less expensive options. Make sure you have a good high performance fuel pump. The stock pump cant deliver the pressures you need coupled with the rising rate fuel pressure regulator and stock injectors.

I made 320 whp with this kit and 550 injectors on AEM EMS. I believe I did have a smaller pulley thou.

thanks for the quick responses... guys i dont really plan on upgrading the injectors just yet if i decide to later on down the road i will... i was just wondering feedback on the stock 5.5 pulley kit with aftercooler.... i just seem kind of worried about it running on stock ecu? is the ecu module really reliable? no tunning issues? and how would you guys rate the compatibility of running a vafc2 with the comptech module? for fine tuning a full exhaust on stock kit (car will be weekend spirited car)

The previous owner of my car had a stock boost ctsc w/o and aftercooler since 2001 and there is no problem. No need to do anything else if you're planning to stay at stock boost but if you have aftermarket header test pipe and exhaust it might run a little lean so I'd suggest just get on a dyno and see what your afr is reading just to be safe

The set up is reliable. All it consist of is a mechanical means to deliver the fuel you need (the fpr) there is no ecu tuning module on the old comptech kits. All it was is a ESM which basically fools your map sensor from the positive pressure it sees. This kit is fully compatible with a vafc and works very well at fine tuning your fuel curve and lowering vtec. If you are buying a newer kit which includes the new control box, then this one is not compatible with the vafc, as it has fuel control and vtec function as well as the map correction. I'm unclear of what gen kit you have.

i havent purchased a kit just yet.. will be buying in a day or so thanks for providing all that information.. put an answer to alot of my questions. with that being said it looks like this is just up my alley as i already have a vafc2. so getting it on the dyno wont be a problem.. il also be installing a wide band into the berk header. so the rising fpr and walboro fuel pump gives the motor plenty of fuel on stock ecu? is what you just confirmed.. could you please elaborate more on the ESM how does that work and "fool the map sensor" and how is the ECM module installed ive seen various threads and ??? but no definitive answers on what it does and how its installed.. i just dont want it to interfere with the vafc2 jumper harness...
