Default Comptech s/c issues

It makes me sick to even write this post, but hopefully someone here will think of something we haven't thought of yet. I'm puzzled because every other Comptech installation I've heard about has been relatively plug and play, and mine's been anything but that.

I had a baseline dyno done 2 weeks ago which said my car had 170hp (on a Dyno Dynamics). I then had a Comptech s/c and aftercooler installed last week. With the AP1 pulley on it (5 lb), we couldn't tell much, if any difference, so we put the AP2 (7 lb) pulley on it and finally felt some difference, though I could tell even then that it wasn't what I should be getting (several friends have the same setup). I took it back for another shot on the dyno, where I only pulled out 235hp and 5 lb of boost.

There are other issues too. We were a little alarmed by the dyno's findings on AFR too, and nothing we did with regard to tweaking the FPR seemed to change anything. We had been shooting for 14.7:1 at idle speed and 11.4-11.7:1 in boost and it never budged below 12.1 in boost/VTEC no matter what we did. We also thought it strange that it got very rich right before it went lean.

Other potential variables that I can't plug into this scenario in any meaningful way are:
- the worst gas mileage I have ever seen. It went through almost a half tank in 65 miles.
- gas odor
- antifreeze odor

Any ideas? I did a compression/leakdown test which revealed everything to be normal.

I'm ready to park it, cover it and never look at it again. Thoughts?

did you boost leak check it?
did you check to see if your FPR is leaking?
if its working correctly
Do you have a Fuel pressure gauge to see if your getting enough fuel (via the FPR)?
What are you using to tune it? just the FPR?
any vac leaks?
any leaks under the car

check for a leak on the ac tubing. a small hole could cause the smell and as far as #'s check that the ac is properly prged before you dyno as well. did u change plugs out? how many miles?

i had a surprisingly similar story. the tuner found boost leaks like crazy that i couldn't find on my own. also you might want to make sure your aftercooler has enough coolant and isn't leaking anywhere.

We did a smoke check, no leaks.
FPR is fine, proper pressure, no leaks.
Was tuning just the FPR. Am now being forced to consider other options.
No vac leaks that we know of and no leaks under car

The tuner was puzzled too. He couldn't find anything either!

did you change your spark plugs? when i went to go dyno-tune mine, my first pass was a solid 283 whp, and then on my 2nd pass, it dropped down to 170whp. My tuner already knew exactly what the problem was. He pulled out my spark plugs, and just as expected, they were fried. I completely forgot that I had brought new spark plugs to change before the tune luckily, my tuner said it was no problem and he helped me swap out the burnt plugs with 1-step-colder range spark plugs my third pass jumped right back up to 288whp, no tuning at all,. just the change of spark plug.

Yeah, but you tried to fab up a FMIC...I don't think this dude did that.

Aye, also what PCV valve are you using, the stock one will most definitely leak causeing boost in the crankcase making you loose some power. You can get a supra PCV or krank vents, either one will remedy that possibility.

The other posters have covered the rest of the basis... but since youre running a AP2 pulley on a stock fuel setup, that tells me youre gonna definitely be in the lean side and also the stock injectors are most definitely maxed out here.

Try the AEM FIC and some 550s or 650s and that should help you level and tune the fuel and pull some timing where you need to.

For the plugs, you should try the NGK 7173, they seem to be the most popular for our setup and they have given me no troubles so far.

Another thing was the bypass valve, that leaks on me causing a pound or two of boost leak.

Is the Comptech kit new or used? Your a/f looks typical of a Comptech setup out of the box.

It is a used kit, but it's a fairly recent one with not many miles on it.
