Default Comptech'd S2k... Engine bogging...

My '02 comptech S/C'ed S2k has been behaving badly lately...

When I punch it, it doesn't seem to want to "go"... It hesitates pretty badly, especially between 4-6k RPM's...

It seems to happen more in the higher gears for some reason...

I thought the clutch was slipping, so I had HTG's clutch package installed, but I'm still having issues...

I also had the MAF sensor replaced at Honda to the new design... Still having issues...

I'm not really sure what it could be?

Any ideas?
Spark plugs?
Belt slipping?

I don't really know where to look...

Thanks in advance...

Go check and solder all your ESM wiring connections.

Hate to ask the obvious, but have you checked the oil level?

Your Comptech kit has a little "black box" called the ESM (electronic signal modifier). In the past few years, I have been involved with several diagnosese of S2000s that exhibit conditions similar to yours. Most of these involve installation by a dealer or some other professional. This does not mean they did it right. In about 5 of those cases, some returned a MAP sensor CEL. MAPs were even changed, only to have the condition return after some days or weeks. In these 5 cases, all were solved by going into those ESM connections at the ECU and stripping the crimp connectors off and soldering the connections instead. Where the odd one was already soldered, it was a slopping job and a thorough re-solder was what was needed. I never heard of a re-occurence of problems in those cars since.

4-6K rpm is the point at which the MAP sensor begins to see boost. The ESM hides that boost from the ECU. If it doesn't get a good signal across those connections, the ECU may not see a signal at all or sees boost. That results in what you witness.

Is your aftercooler pump running? I had the same issue when my pump cut off. Cleaned the connectors and a couple taps with a hammer and it came back on.

Many of the Comptech guys who have reported this peculiar issue had the crimped connection and the car ran quite well for about 6 months to a year before it acted up. How long has yours been on the car?

if its not soldered thats probably whats wrong with it. lose connections will cause it to run like crap.. its because the map senor signal is cut and now controlled by the ESM.
