Default Cost of going FI

I just bought my S2000. It has a warranty for the next 50k miles - so I won't be going FI until that is up. However, since my S2000 is my daily driver as of now I will probably be thru that in 3 years or so. So if I were to start saving now, how much would I realistically need to put a FI setup together?

I am not sure if I want to go supercharged or turbocharged. I guess turbo since it delivers more torque - which I miss now that I no longer drive a FI american car.

Thanks.

Well, it depends a lot on which turbo kit you go with and which MODs you go with. The kits range from $3800. - 7k. Then you have the install costs and tunning. Both can vary in price significantly from mechanic to mechanic to tunner to tunner. I paid $1800. for the install, but that included head work, custom single exhaust and the turbo install. The tunning cost me $300. But again, both can vary. good luck!

I guess just ask around here for a good mechanic and/or tuner?

you can install any of this stuff with some tools and basic knowledge of cars. You could buy the inline pro kit for 3800 plus exhaust 500 ems 1600 w/wideband, install it all yourself and spend 300-500 for a tune.

Then you will be running a safe setup with alot of room to upgrade for $6200.

Then, buy the kit used save 800, but the ems used save 400, buy a used exhaust save 200, and now your down to 4800.

There is exhaust work needed? So I guess the kits dont include modified exhaust manifolds? Is there a writeup that discusses all that is involved in setting up a turbo?

Is a SC setup a lot cheaper and simpler?

Sounds like you need to do some "SEARCH" and lots of reading.... Since you don't plan on going FI under after 50K miles...you will have PLENTY of time to bone up on the information you are looking for right here in this forum.

Cost ...................... More than anyone really wants to spend and less than what should be spent.

I truely dont agree with that statement! I watched most of the install and let me tell you it isnt a simple job. I had two mechanics who have been working/installing turbos for years and it took them 2 weeks to do the install. Granted, it pobably could have been done quicker, but if its done right its going to take some time. Plus, just because its a "kit" that doesnt mean its going to bolt right in. My mechs had to do a lot of fabricating and modifications to make everything fit properly. Unless your an experienced mechanic i do NOT recommend trying to do the install yourself.....

I'd say $10k for a turbo and maybe $5k for a non-intercooled SC. It is possible to do it cheaper, but things always seem to pop up.
