It will cost every last spare $$ you have, ans even more if you have a decent line of credit.

Thanks for all the responses. I think that as for a DIY job - I think I could do the SC myself. I have a decent amount of experience with cars - rockers, cam (in a v6 that required pulling the engine), and other random stuff. A turbo requires way too much fabrication for my experience level.

And don't worry - I wouldn't cheap out. I've seen blown engines in other supercharged cars because people went the easy way and didn't put on the modifications required to support increased boost levels. $10k is a bit more than I'd want to spend - so maybe the SC is the answer for me

On top of some of the costs that were already mentioned in here, remember to add another $1k for a clutch and install for all of that new found power. Since going turbo I have created a new rule of thumb. Whatever you figure out to be your total after you have done countless hours of research and figured every possibility out, add another $1,000 to that because something will always go wrong that will cost you money that you never would have thought of from the beginning to get the car running the way you want it to.

Sell a kidney, you don't need both.

I'm suprised that no one has mentioned a BBK as a must if you go FI. When adding that much more power, having a better way to slow down seems equally important.
