Could I have done it cheaper?

Default Could I have done it cheaper?

What's going on everyone. Need some motivation per say. Sold my SOS kit and I can finally say that my turbo kit will be complete by next week. My question is could I have done it any cheaper or I hate to think of it but would it have been cheaper to boost another car like an evo? I have 1500 in injectors and ECU (version 2 and ID 1000s), 1000 in miscellaneous parts (catch can/ valve cover, AC lines, boost/AFR gauges, turbo blanket), and 1900 for a half together sheepy kit (side winder manifold, IC piping, intercooler, DP, DT, blow off valve) when it's all said in done its going to be close to 10 grand if not over. Still need to order close to 4 grand in parts which doesn't include some fab work. Would it be cheaper and less expensive to build an evo? Maybe someone could shine some light on the matter but I remember being in highschool (26 now) and seeing how affordable it was to make an 450whp evo. Would I have saved hundreds maybe thousands to go with that car?

Thanks Elliott

My friend that's a vendor said the same thing. Had a guy spend close to 11 grand only for it to make 450whp. Guess you have to pay to play.

It will always cost to play the go fast game I'm 26 and close to 25k invested in my s2000 and it's been down for 2 years but i have had 2 evo both over 400 whp and my s2000 just N\A is way more fun to drive better looking and will destroy both my evo with the s2000 on pump gas . Plus how many turbo s2000s do you see compared to just another evo lol

@ pass, that's the issue my friend who has a 9.0 civic competes all over is saying to go with a journal but everyone keeps saying a BB. He had a 6768 and would walk our friend with a 6266. Was planning a 6266 ball bearing. Percision is my only option.

@ bobby, as pass said it I'm not trying to cheap at on anything and that could also be a little bit of my issue.

I just sold my evo which had everything engine mod with a billent gtx3582r. Evos on pump gas with the stock turbo are extremely slow. The only way your getting over 400whp in an evo is either stock turbo with e85 and full bolt ons or pump gas with a bigger turbo.

The only difference in terms of price for an evo and s2000 is that the evo you don't have to buy an ems. Everything else is the same. You need to buy a quality tubular manifold, quality ball bearing turbo, injectors, intercooler, etc for both a turbo s2000 as well as an evo.

In fact i think the s2000 is cheaper

with the s2000 you don't need to buy valve train and cams. You don't need to port the head for big power. You don't have to buy big expensive intake manifolds. Most importantly the stock s2000 engine never need to be built for over 600WHP. No need to worry about aftermarket pistons/rods and all that headace. When your over 500awhp in the evo you need to build the block with forged pistons/rods.

but with the s2000 you do have to fork out $1,000 for an ems and when you over 500whp the Diff/transmission is questionable

^ Evo trans are "glass" too at that power level.

One of the larger/more successful Evo/DSM shops in the country (Street tuned motorsports or STM) is just a few minutes down the road from me. All the big power evos are running Buscher 2.0L engines and built TRE trans.
