Default Crank rotation ?

Tried to post the question in a retainer thread in "Under the Hood" but no joy soooooooo..........

I understand you can do cylinders 1 and possibly 4 at TDC and still not lose a valve if it happens to drop. Does that mean a half turn of the crank will do the same for 2&3 or do I have that wrong?

I thought I read in one thread TDC do cylinders 1&4, then QUARTER turn and do 2&3. I am confused.

After TDC and doing cylinder 1, what kind of rotation of the crank do I need for the others to avoid losing a valve if it drops?

Many thanks in advance.

The way I check is to put the dipstick down the spark plug hole as I turn the crank. When the dipstick stops going up any further that piston is TDC. Good luck and have fun!

Never thought of that.

I wonder if it would also be a quarter rotation for each cylinder in firing order?

TDC cylinder one, the quarter turn cylinder 3, quarter turn cylinder 4, then qaurter turn cylinder 2?

Yes. One half turn of the crank will get 2 and 3 to the top of the cylinder.

It's 180* turns to accomplish what you're asking.
