Default Crower FI cams

So ive read a lot of threads on these cams not producing power but actually losing power on a turbo'd s2000 from stock cams. Most of those threads are old and that may have been true a few years ago. But I will say that after a few tests on my friend nicks dyno, i can say that the cams do work pretty well, with the right setup. Our first test was done with trevor's 04 s2000. He has the greddy kit and is using AEM ems. His car with stock cams made 312hp on 9psi and 230tq. We pulled his cams out and replaced them with BC FI cams part number BC0061T. After quite a bit of tuning, the most we could get out of them was 298hp and 229 tq. Well after a long day of being pissed off from all the work he said screw it and just left the BC cams in and has been running them for about 4 months. He decided he wanted to go with a better setup and make a lot more power so he bought a tubular sidewinder manifold and is running a precision sc61bb turbo. Back to the dyno we went. He made 456hp at 18psi and 288tq and was very satisfied. Then he said, "man lets put my stock cams back in and make a lil more power and ill sell these"!!! So we swapped them out and went back to the dyno. Without any tuning and on first pull it made 428hp and 279 tq. After a little tuning and staying on 18psi, we got it up to 430hp and 280tq but thats it. So we called it a night and did some research and decided we would wait till the next day to finish up the dyno session and possibly swap the cams out. I did some research and talked to a few people and we think that the BC cams are only good when you use a good flowing system. We tend to think that a cast log manifold, such as the greddy, wont flow enough air out fast enough and that its basically causing "reversion" or the air back into the head and causing loss of power. But with a equal length tubular manifold and a bigger turbo, it flows so well that the cams are able to get all the air out fast enough to make the extra power. I will be posting up all the dyno sheets we have accumalated over the past few months here in the next day or so.

Good news, and analysis Both tuning sessions, initial and 4 months after, were done by same tuner and same dyno?

Yep, same tuner and same dyno. Even the outside conditions were pretty close.

well that is promising, but the other issue with the cams was they were detroying the topend of the motor. i cant remember the specifics, but i think it was in a 2.4L stroker motor.

oh well, nice to see there was a gain with them. you might be one of the first!

Nice. Thanks for sharing your findings. How are the BC cams holding up? was there any irregular wear shown on the cams when you pulled them? Any tct noise?

I tried them in my Rotrex C38 conv on an otherwise stock car (std exhaust end to end) and they made 20 brake across the board but I had to pull a load of ign at the top to stop det,so i'm assuming the cylinder filling was much better everywhere. Definately use them in a built motor with race fuel.

Im so glad someone brought this up because i have a setup just like you..

I have the f24c setup with a stock head except a BC stage 3 full race cam (bc00062) Before i get ahead of myself let me start from the beginning. The original f24c setup came with a built top end BC cams/springs/valves.
When the original dyno was done, he stated that the car wouldnt vtec and would run badly. They kept toying around with the setup and finally removed the dual valve springs, and presto the car would vtec. How the car came to its current setup i am not quite sure.

f24c oem stroker kit, stock head, BC stage 3 cam, gt28rs.

My question is, why just the Exhaust cam? Is it because the intake cam on the ap1 is aggresive enough? Also, what is the concern of premature valve spring wear?
The car originally came with a tubular maniold, and now has a log style manifold i recently put on it.

BC states on their website it is highly recommended to buy their upgraded valve springs with the purchase of a more aggresive cam.
Is this due to the problems you encountered without enough flow rate?
I have many other questions but was curious about the setup i am running, seeing as you are running close the same thing.

Glad to finally hear that cams work in these motors. How's the sound with those cams?
