I was hoping we could take my OEM ones out of my F20, however they mount under the valve stem seal, where as the aftermarket ones do not.

So I'm going to order the CORRECT Ferrea valve spring retainers (#E11045) and get them fitted instead, praying the Ferrea dual valve springs are infact Ferrea dual valve springs (S10074) as quoted.

More down time + wait time for parts from the US.

****** ridiculous. I wish I never bought this engine.

are you talking about the valve spring seat? that is the only thing that sits below the valve seal

Yes, the seat, keepers, cobbers, followers, lifters etc.

The springs are sitting on the aluminum head..

There be a whole lot of confusion going on here.

The S2000 doesn't have lifters or followers or whatever. It does have LMAs, which is pretty much the only part the engine will run without, that could conceivably lead to this sort of damage.

The LMAs are simply springs with little end caps. When you remove the cams and rockers they simply sit in little recessed holes in the head and can be removed with thumb and fore finger.

They should be easily transferable from the old engine.

Yessum.

However, to put the AP2 springs / retainers / keepers in (which I have spare here BNIB), I'd have to lift the head to install them as they mount below the valve stem seal.

The Ferrea dual valve springs mount above the valve stem seal so taking them out wouldn't be an issue, but having to install the AP2's - would, as I'd have to lift the head.

Hmmmm????

Never heard of springs (or retainers or keepers) mounting above or below valve stem seals.

what you are talking about is the valve spring seat. It keeps the spring from walking. You can do everything with the head still on the car. Only time you would need to remove it is if you need to replace a valve or a guide.

See the hole in the forground, the spring assembly slides in this. You have to be carfull b/c with the head off they slide right out and are easy to loose.

Also this is what a properly assebled Ferrea valve and spring should look like
