Default Debate the costs of a turbo kit

ive been on here for bout six months now. i purchased "neveronline's" s2000. i put it against the curb the second week. payed $1280 for new upper, lower, control arm, wheel hub, and knuckle and labor. (that money was going to e for some new wheels)

to the point, i want to go FI for the first time. ive read trhough a bunch of threads, and have p'emed some guys here.

it seems like if someone asks about building a "kit" people always reply "do it right get and inline pro kit" or pfab, greddy exct.

it also seems like after someone says this everyone jumps on the band wagon thus, keeping the members here who have put their own kit together from chiming in. N IT IS THEYRE INFO THAT I AM LOOKING FOR RIGHT NOW!

i cannot afford to buy a 4k+ kit (not that i would even if i could).

those of you with a budget kit, "come out to playyy aaayyy" (the warriors). n show me what you have... n what the pros n con of these are... 300rwhp is something i would def be happy with (knowing this will make the most powerfull car ive ever been in) i know, i know

combats2000, s2khondas n im assuming a few more have had succesfull low cost kits.

now before you guys call me a cheap ass, i bit about why i cant afford a kit from inline, pfab or so.

i just turned 21. i bought a house last year, live with mother n yourger brother (mom doesnt have a job). i pay for all our expenses.... (mortgage sucks)!

even this route will probably take me a while to complete but, its something i definetly want to do. thanks

but my Used Greddy Kit for $2,700.00 (not including shipping or the 3% paypal)

Only thing you would need is a BOV ( I would seel ya for an additional 100.00) and a tune

I made 301 RWHP @10PSI and made 317 @ 12psi (Meth)

This kit has been pretty reliable I pushed around 15,000-20,000 miles on it and it still pulls very hard (The METH may have increased the longevity of the kit, dude to lower EGTS etc)

anyway I am going PFAB but I have been happy with Greddy

in that case.. you should rule out turbo.. get a SC.. SOS, comptech, and vortech are the ones i recommend, honestly.. if u cant afford the kit then u cant afford boost.. you will spend 4-7k on a kit and 3-4k for other misc turbo parts and then you have labor..

To do a turbo kit correctly and have the car completely reliable, it is expensive! Just start pricing out fittings, you'll easily spend a few hundred dollars on oil line fittings, clamps, water line fittings, etc.

You can do it on the cheap, but you'll sacrifice reliabilty. Unless you have a second vehicle laying around...

Considering your personal situation, I wouldn't even think about turboing your car. It's easily a $7k+ proposition to do it correctly IMO. Yes, people will say you can do it cheaper, but like I said, I go for max reliability. I turbo'd my Nissan and put over 80k miles on it with the turbo including track days.

In your case, just leave well enough alone until your family situation becomes better. If you try to go cheap, you can easily destroy the engine, and you're suddenly out $5k for an engine on top of what you spent to turbo it, and then more costs for install labor.

If you can't afford a "$4000 kit" you're not going to build one cheaper. The greddy kit is your best bet for cheap.

You can go the piece it together route....

Or you can buy the pfab stage 1 for 3600 and save some more money for ems, injectors, walbro and have a 8psi kit out of the box that has a lot of room to grow. it would make 300-350whp.

I am not one of these guys running a nice FI kit due to reasons like your own. But i would love to do it. Something that i have gaithered is you can have only two of three things. It is up to you what you choose. A fast, reliable or cheap car, you pick the two but you cant have all three. I am just saving my nickels and dimes and ill get it one day, but i will do it right!
