I did my CTSC on the cheap:

$2000 for blower/mount/UR FMIC/BOV
$75 for new lines/fittings

= $2075

Didn't make much power on 5psi (~80whp), but I made it pretty cheap. Power wasn't worth it.

$110 for 9psi pulley and belt
$800 for EMU + harness
$325 for injectors
$450 for tuning

= $1685
= $3760 total

Then I didn't make power I was happy with.

$110 for 14psi pulley and belt
$400 for tuning

= $510
= $4270 total

Now count other things I've done in the name of keeping my car healthy/making optimal power.

$650 for a Laskey stage 3 head
$280, 360, 320 for different exhausts. Finally found the optimal one for my car
$80 for test pipe
$125 for header
$75 for new ignition packs

= $1890
= $6160 total

$6k later and I'm at a very reliable ending. These are only the mods I did to get/aid boost, and nothing else. This does not include the countless gallons of oil, hours I put into installing everything, or misc bolts/connectors.

In conclusion, I'm pretty much saying to save up $6-8k before you do this.

honestly, with all the responsibilities you mentioned in the first post. DO NOT DO FI AT ALL. the biggest problem people run into, is not being able to afford the tings that come up after. if your barking at 4k for a turbo kit, then you def dont need to be looking at FI at all.

listen, forget the turbo kit for a sec.

clutch alone with install is gonna run you what, 1200? maybe even 1500.

lets say you can do it yourself, then your looking at more like 700.

well your turbo kit needs a way to tune it, so kpro, emu, aem ems. emu is cheapest, but still around 600. then you will need to tune it. even if you tune it yourself, your looking at 50-75 an hour for dyno time and 3-4 hours of time.

soo,

not even buying the turbo stuff yet, your at and this is low side, assuming yiou can do it all yourself
700
600
200
total 1500 and you havent even bought one turbo peice yet.

now u need injectors, pump, thats 500 bucks for both.

total 2000

so now we need a turbo, mani, intercooler, wastgate, bov.
say
800 turbo
300 log mani
400 intercooler
200 wastegate
200 bov
soo, 3900 for all things so far. oh wait, piping, this one can be a killa, i have heard 600-1000 for charge piping and a down pipe.
damn 4500-4900 ish. this is all low end approxs. and trust me, there are always hidden costs

it is true, expect to pay around 7-8k for all parts, this is all encompassing. kit + clutch+other crap.

then, if you are unable to install yourself, expect another 500-2k for install of all things.

theres a reason people throw around 8-10k for good quality turbo kit.

SC yeah you can get that in the i think 3k ish used + 1k for other parts and crap. then again theres the install.

no matter what, have reserves. so for you, i reccomend you pay your mortgage and save money until you can afford to do it right.
you did a good job explaining these costs

just drive the car n/a for a year at least. get to know the car and learn to drive it well. i wanted to go turbo when i first purchased my car but am going to wait a year and piecing together parts in the meantime. the car would definitely be complete with a turbo but still is a lot of fun to drive without. enjoy what you have.

depends how crafty you are.. and who you know.

im piecing my own kit as we speak... i've aquired these items thus far:
AEM EMS UEGO ($1,000)
Borgwarner turbo, TiAL 38mmvband gate, and TiAL bov ($1,200)
i designed my own air to water intercooler system (core/vbands/bosch pump/reservoir) ($350)
i'm making my own manifold/downpipe/ic pipes (~$300 max)
misc earl fittings + steelbraided lines (~$200)

and thats not including TUNING, clutch/fly install, spark plugs, and any obstacles i may run into..

i'm installing it myself and doing any fab/wrench work myself so im saving myself a good bit there..

like its been said before.. DONT GO FI IF YOU DONT HAVE THE FUNDS TO FIX IF IT BREAKS.

youre already strapped for cash and trying to cheap out on something that can make/break your motor and land you with a whole new set of headaches.

save your money and wait it out. its not a NECCESSITY... its a DESIRE.

This is showing that you can go FI for cheap and make nice power and be reliable.$2000 for the basic comptech kit is all you need if you want around 300 whp.
All the extra stuff you did is not needed for the power he is asking and plus lots of that money is upgrading things for boost and head which wouldn't be needed and 3 different exhausts. You can definitly go supercharged for not a whole lot of money and do it reliably as well.
