Default DO I NEED A DIFF HOOD IF I S/C OR TURBOCH?

Hey Guys:

First of all, let me apologize in advance if I'm posting my question in the wrong forum. I don't know much about cars, especially "mods."

Anyhow, here's my question...

If I decide to supercharge or turbocharge MY06, do I need those special/modified hoods I see in various S2K forums? I don't know what to call those special hoods as I wouldn't know where to begin, however, I'm referring to (I guess...?) Mugen (with holes?/bubbles?). I've also seen other special hoods with vents?.?.?

Anyhow, I guess what I'm trying to say is...Is it mandatory to replace your OEM hood with those special "hoods" if I do decide to s/c or turbocharge?

I'm asking this because I don't like those other hoods with holes, bumps, bubbles (whatever you call them)? I really like the OEM hood---I like the way it looks

PS. I have tried to search our site. However, due to lack of knowledge with automotive terminologies, I didn't go far.

PS2. Almost forgot...Thanks in advance

With a supercharger, no, as long as you keep the stock header and heatshield. I got a header and lost the heatshield. The underhood temps were getting a bit higher than I'd like to see, so I got a vented hood. This helps to get rid of the heat quite well.
A turbo is similar in that there is tremendous heat build up under the hood. I'm not sure hot much harm this can do to underhood components. If you don't worry about such things, then I guess you can just run the stock hood.

c/f will discolor from the temps of a turbo over time. Get the piping coated.

Thanks xviper & kane.s2K for your expertise and advice. There's an S2K get-together here in SoCal tomorrow. Perhaps, I can also get some input from those guys who have "modified" their S.

Again, thank you.

PS. xviper, I really enjoy your thread regarding the "dummy" guide---quite entertaining, yet very informative.

You mentioned you've got a MY06. Currently there aren't any turbo or supercharger kits compatible with your car. Comptech have a supercharger kit in the works, though it may be a while till that's available.

Thanks for the "head's up," s0rted. I have been doing an extensive search (only on the internet) regarding supercharding/turbocharging MY06. Based on what I came up with, the only 2 prominent automotive experts on these engine modifications are Comptech and Vortech (unless you know of others). Please feel free to inform and educate me.

When I visited Comptech's site, I didn't see anything mentioned on current S model year. Hence, I sent an e-mail. I have, yet, to receive a reply back (it's been at least 10 days). I guess the "no response" position means that they don't have the s/c kit for MY06. As you mentioned, they are currently working on it. Again, thanks for the "head's up."

To EXPERTS, I value your opinion on the following matter:

Since I already brought up the subject about engine modification, I might as well bring up this related matter. I've read different opinions (wether based on real facts or hearsays) from various threads about Honda's warranty.

Perhaps due to my lack of knowledge about the S as well as based on the info I was given by the dealer's sales manager, I ended up purchasing an additional 4-year warranty for MY06 (around $5K). I guess based on what I've read so far from our site, The S is quite reliable. I purchased MY06 on an impulse. I was just driving by along the car rows and saw a Honda dealer. I stopped by to check their truck

From what I've read, it is possible to find some dealers who will install a Comptech SC w/out voiding the Honda warranty. You still, however, run into the problem of not having a SC application for the MY06. If you get that sorted out, you shouldn't have a problem with your warranty unless you have someone other than Honda install it. Good luck. Some gears might be a good option in the mean time.

Go read the terms of the extended warranty - you might be able to get a partial refund.

you can always put some stick on heat pads undert the CF hood to keep it from the heat that cause discoloring
