Default Do I really want to go Honda?

Okay, so i have a STI right now, but want to build a fast drag car. I've been looking to build it up a bit, but having done a couple performance car projects, I know power and quality cost money. It seems like you always get more for your money if you find a half finished project, which leads me to why I'm on a Honda forum.

A good friend of mine has a sick looking S2000. It's pretty much stock except for an Invidia exhaust, aem intake, and lowered 2". He has been wanting to build it for YEARS now. He has a built AP1 engine with AEBS sleeves, Peuter rods, CP pistons, Ported head with bigger valves, and pretty much everything under the sun done to it to make BIG power and to stay together for a long time. He have a lovefab stainless header, Precision turbo, AEM computer, giant intercooler with all the charge pipes, BDL throttle body and fuel rail, Honda 6puck clutch, oil filter relocation kit, A1000 fuel pump(with filters and regulator), 4 AEM pillar mount guages(boost, afr, oil preassure, and something else, I forget), aluminum batery relocation box, entire 4" exhaust, and about anything else you could think of.

Bottom line is, he wants to sell all of it as it sits. I'm more of an STI guy(no offense) for numerous reasons, and it'd be a hard car to let go of, but he told me he'd take 16k for EVERYTHING as it sits.....I know i'd have wwwaaaayyy more than that into the kind of car i want to build, and even then, i think this would demolish my 600hp goal. The catch is I'd have to sell my Subaru for the cash, and i don't know if i can do that.

What are your feelings on your turbo s2ks? Would you build them again if you had to start over, or would you use a differant platform? How well does this chassis take power? Could i find a better deal on this forum?

thanks for all your time to read this. any feedback would be appreciated.

BTW: what's a stock engine worth to you guys? I'd have one left over from this car with 47k miles on it, what should I figure on to sell it for so i know how much the project will really cost?

$2k for the longblock?? Honda doesn't make a 6 puck clutch I havnt ever seen a a1000 fuel pump and 4" exhaust is just too big....

But if the car is clean than it's a great deal and could make 600-700+ hp depending on turbo size and tune

Also, porting a f series head and adding bigger valves isn't needed at all it's not commonly done even on the highest hp s2ks. Don't waste money on a set of cams either, you'll lose power

Here is a link to the a1000 fuel pump from JEGS. They are great pumps. a lot of my friends use them and i'd recomend them.

and the clutch looks exactly like this, but says 'Honda' on it, so I'm not sure what's going on there.......i'm not really a Honda guy though.

That's just what he has for it. For any small gain, no matter what the cost, i guess it'd be bonus for me

And yes, I've heard that the stock cams are the tits. I love the whole concept of V-tec. It seems like every car company should do that to utilize performace and economy.

Dont forget a good rearend solution $2000-$3500 and a trans solution or just swap out stock trans every so often when the gears break; $500 for used trans every so often or $5000-$6000 for a good PPG synchro gearset.

Depending on the condition of the car $16K isn't too bad. You could sell the motor, fuel pump and rail and some of the other bits and then work on getting the other parts you are going to need which are not mentioned.

The S2000 can make big power w/ little modifications. For a base build of 400-450WHP all you need is a turbo kit, injectors, Walbro 255LPH, clutch, AEM or Hondata.

If you are runing the correct turbo and acompaing part with the Lovefab GT1 kit (Equal Length not Log) will make around 450WHP on pump gas with a stock motor. Then when you are ready to move to the next step, by either lowering the compression or changing the fuel it will easily take you to 600+WHP.

oem PP with an act 6-puck disc maybe?

i sold my RR 05 Evo8 MR to buy my AP2. best move i ever made. i owned hondas since i was 16. then i bought an rx7, got a job at a mazda race shop, eventually bought an evo, hated it(except for 14 psi anti-lag drag launching), and ended up trading it in at a dealership for my AP2 that was in the center of their showroom floor. i got money back on the trade in too. yay for having a rare evo valued at 24k used with 38k miles as a trade in.

needless to say; even if i had to keep my s2k stock forever, its still so much more fun to drive and be in than any other car i have ever owned. will it pull 7G's from a dead stop, rip your face off, and run 12's with less than 800 bucks in mods? hell no. but everything else about the car is WIN in my eyes.
