Default Dyno Tuning vs. Street Tuning

I thought this would be the best place to post this since I dont see many N/A guys talking about tuning thier cars.

I'd just like to know which is better and why?

thanks
-Carlo

p.s. google search came out with results like "dyno day" "shot's that does tuning"

p.s.s. s2ki.com search came out with results like "where is a good tuning shop" "what shops could tune AEM EMS"

What are you going to be using for tuning and do you have a a/f guage in your car? On a dyno you're going to be able plot out the info and measure performance. Street tuning should be used to make adjustments and give you drivability at part throttle applications so in an ideal world you should do both. This is of course assuming you are on a standalone. If you're just using a VAFC just put it on the dyno and make sure you're not too lean and leave it at that. It doesn't have enough parameters to necessitate a street tuning session.

is a wideband o2 and Emange good enough for street tuning? Does it have enough parameters? I will be putting it on the Dyno but want to get most of the drivabilty problems out of the way before spendding tons of time and money at the dyno!

it can go both ways. i know a ton of racers that take their car out in the middle of the night and tune them by giving it nothing but hell. then i have a hand full of them that swear on the good ol DYNO!

If your making any serious power, I would highly suggest the dyno. Build boost, wheel-spin, and you cant get anything done.
The other option is to do 4th, 5th gear pulls(approaching 140mph) and try to watch the gauges, watch for p0 p0, and of course other drivers. If you blow something at that speed, chances are the motor will die, killing all power brake functions. Have fun slowing down from 140mph.
In essence, I will never street-tune for my "initial" tune; I save that for the dyno in a NICE and controlled environment. If Im making enough power to spin on the rollers, strap the wheens down more. Get it tuned up, then take it on the street, datalog, pull over and park; then tune some partial throttle stuff, do other tweaking.
Just my experiences, opinions
