Default E85 Question

Hey guys,

Went to the track recently with a few buddies running evo's and they are all running e85. They told me all I would need is larger injectors since I already have the Walbro 255. Im running 750's now. They said I would get at least 30-50hp from switching to E85. If i would raise the boost from 11 to 14, it would even be more compared to 93 Octane.

Is this true? Would I need to purchase larger injectors like 1000ID or even higher? I would like 400-450hp to the wheels at 14 psi since im still on the stock block.

Thanks

Yes you will need at least the ID 1000's for E85, and you maybe able to squeeze 450whp with your base fuel pressure running that fuel. If it was my dime I would get the Fullblown 340 fuel pump also because it will flow more and its quiet. My build with 18psi, 340lph pump and ID 2000's everything else stock netted 567whp.

Nice setup.. HOk so if the 1000 ID's are needed, can anyone confirm if I would need to upgrade my fuel pump to acomodate E85 on 14 psi?

Yea that walbro is loud but so far its been bulletproof.

s2000442, how much mileage do you have on your S? I was wondering if I should just upgrade this now or wait until I have to repair the motor. I have 146k miles on my S and 10 of them have been boosted.

Was thinking about building the engine not sure if thats overkill if Im running only 14 psi. If something does happen, might just upgrade to the ap2 motor. Will miss the 9k...

Yes you will be able to make considerably more power on e85.

Idk that you would NEED to get the FB340, but I would.. I ran a PFab log (which is a lot more comparable to your car than a ptuning kit) and on a single 340,ID1000s an AEM FPR and the base pressure set to 65psi, Evans was able to squeeze out 500WHP on what he said was still fairly conservative.. that was on a 5857

That walbro should be fine for A 450WHP application with E85 so its not necessary to switch pumps. My S now has 39XXX miles on it and it has been babied all the time. Personally I would just upgrade the pump now that way its done and if you want more power down the road with larger injectors or raise your fuel pressure to 60psi base pressure for the 1000's to flow more the Fullblown pump can handle the higher base pressure with the added boost pressure from the turbo. With ID 1000's and 60psi base fuel pressure you should touch 500whp+ easily with the 1000ID injectors and have a blast driving the car. You will need a fuel pressure regulator to up the fuel pressure and tune for it.

On average I am able to pick-up 20whp - 40whp at the same boost level with E85 over gasoline.

Are E85 only benefits the power increase and detonation prevention? Are there any negative effects of switching to E85?

Im just looking at the pros and cons and if its worth it to upgrade my Injectors, fuel pump and regulator for 20-40hp when considering or just to stay on pump and increase my boost to 14psi.

On a side note, my tuner advised me originally that I was good for up to 16psi if I ever installed a boost controller or if i had a bit of boost spike. Currently on my setup with my exhaust cutout open, it spikes to 12.5psi and then goes down to about 10.5-11 at 9k. Does his statement make sense?

Well for one your mileage will be worse, you will need to source stations that sell it. E85 will thin out your oil much faster than 93 octane so more frquent oil changes are necessary. I change mine every 1500-2000miles regardless. The E85 will cool your intake temps down a little because its an alcohol based fuel.

Absolutely get a boost controller! PM Induction Performance and they can help you with any questions.
