Yes, the S2000 has a knock sensor and it is in use all the time, even on a completely stock car. That's why people have been able to get away with running FI on stock ECU S2000s, but its also why I think we're beginning to see some failures on the harder used cars.
They're getting detonation all the time and the sensor is pulling out timing. The sensor protects you, but you have to actually _get_ detonation before it pulls out the timing. Its a slow death. Timing retard is critical for long life.
Wes, the 1 degree resolution means you can only retard 1 deg/psi? Did you find that to be a little coarse for getting the best tuneup?

Would an aftermarket knock sensor be better used in tuning the timing? Do you know any good companies that make knock sensors for our car? I think you can adjust the timing as much as you want. It is just at 1 degree increments withing the ignition map.
well basically like UL said.... The knock sensor will only tell when detonation has occurred....knock sensors are not like O2 sensors where by you have the narrow and wide band sensors.... knock sensors are knock sensors... it detects noise.... if you log the knock sensor... you will notice large spikes when a car detionates..... The knock sensor will then retard the timing so that the detonation does not occur again.....
To play it safe all you have to do if increase your timing a degree at a time till to get detonation...... then back it off a degree or two to stay on the safe side..... remember temperature is not a friend so the hotter it gets the less advance you wanna set your timing......
This is so much fun... I cant wait to buy one.... anyone wanna GROUP BUY........................ I want A GROUP BUY.....................

oh ya ...almost forgot... if there is a way to tap the stock knock sensor...there is no need for a after market one..... hopefully the emanage should tap the stock sensor.....
Wes...... DO you have the emanage manual electronically handy..
Thanks

Wes,
I hope this is not off topic but, I read the link that you had posted in the other emanage forum... I was wondering if the e01 controller was necessary or could a laptop be connected to the emanage????
Thanks
