Default Emissions....

Gentlemen in the know,

Apologies if this has been answered in spades... but I have been reading the forum, so...

I THINK I know that the only S2K CARB certified turbo sold on the market is made by Greddy which means that for me, living in Atlanta, if I want to pass emissions with FI on a turbo setup, (this means an OBDII hookup at an emissions station), I must use the Greddy kit, is that correct?

If so, I would have to have that same requirement met on a SuperCharger setup, right?

Or is there some other way ( other than finding a way to register my car somewhere that doesn't have that requirement) that I can go FI with a turbo or SuperC setup and still pass?

Knowledgeable answers, or pointers in the right direction appreciated.

thank you

Greddy Turbo. Comptech and vortech Superchargers are your options. You can however up the boost on these units wile utilizing a piggy back engine management device or Kpro full stand alone and still pass.

Forgive my ignorance but....

If a KPRO emu will allow me to pass emissions, why cant I use it with any FI setup ?

You can use the Kpro and it should pass, it does use a RSX ECU but it should not be a problem and you can run any turbo kit or SC 1000CC+ injectors. As long as you use 550's injectors you can use a greddy ULT with no problem and again run any kit with in the injector limits. Your can run larger injectors with the greddy ult but you need a good tuner. I went as high as 1000cc injectors but the car run poorly on certain but it did work. You could also look at haletech I think they have a new piggy back.

The Kpro is pretty $$ I think the greddy ult is a good value as long as you have a goal of around 12-14 psi and not crazy HP. I tried to also run it with a 3mm which I think made it extra challenging along with the 1000cc ID.

Technically you cant becuase those other kits are not carb exempt, but if your not worried about a visual inspection in your town, then run anything you want with K pro.

When I had vortech, I asked couple place in my local inspection place. They looked at my vortech and told me its turbo. I told them its vortech with carb sticker and they told me they have to fail me just because I didnt have stock air box. I drove out to ghetto place. They did little things, gave me new sticker. Honestly, I will worry about CARB if I live in cali.

Haltech isn't option either. I think you can keep obd with only kpro.
Inspection stuff, you should talk with your local guys at MEET. i know there are ton of FI guys in GA...

Emission standards are different state to state. California being the most stringent. Best to talk to the guys in your local club as chef-i mentioned.

I have Caly smog testing due in a couple months. I am not stressing since the install of the kit I have is simple. I plan on unbolting my S/C bracket (blower attached), swapping the OEM injectors and ECU, plugging up the after cooler hoses (leaving heat exchanger on car), reconnecting vacuum lines, remove TP and install cat, and installing the primary OEM O2 sensor. It should be about 90 minutes worth of time.
