Default EMS question

Ive had a vortech SC for about 9 months and havent installed it yet. I've been debating installing my vortech or waiting to install it with the EMS.

Keep in mind this is my weekend car. I do like taking long trips in the car so reliability are a must.

I was thinking of buying some wheels but I might just use that money to buy the EMS.

I am not going for big power (yet) I know in the future I probably will be.

My questions:

Is it fine to just use the "black box" electronics that the kit comes with?

Is the EMS a plug in type deal? (besides having it tuned of course)

How reliable are the vortech electronics and the EMS?

Thanks guys.

i have the vortech without the ems and its great. Unless you want to up the injectors or boost, the stock form is fine. Overkill with the EMS if you not going to modify it further. Get the wheels (Lots of used options in the for sale section).

You'll be fine with the stock kit. You should run it on a dyno to know what your A/F is. That way you can buy my Volks

ahhhh a meaning to your madness, I like your wheels. PM me what you want for them, maybe I'd buy them if I'm not broke.

I just installed the vortech kit a couple of weeks ago with black box's and I am seeing mid 12's in the af ratio under heavy boost it has even spiked close to 13.0. Be careful with the stock setup, I was in your position several weeks ago and now find myself looking for some way to get the af numbers down. Not hijacking but anyone have sugestions? Hope this helps

If you know you want to run more boost in the future I would recommend getting the EMS now. A stock SC w/ EMS is way way better than a stock SC and black box/map clamp.

Any more info on AEM piggyback? Sounds like it would be perfect for people who want to run 9psi and under?

i did 341whp and 207tq, with the AEM EMS +Vortech kit. everything was stock but the Vortech supercharger, on a DynaPack. I had to send in my black box 4 times (over a month wait) before i gave up and bought the AEM EMS.

The EMS Plug right in, but you'll need to get it tuned to work well with your car.
