That is the stem of the valve, and not the area that would "burn" The Valve sealing surface and valve seat in the cylinder head seal the combustion chamber, not the stem. Deposits on the stem is not unusual, not does it indicate the valve doesn't seal.

 

I understand, but the head is still on the car. I can't really get a picture of the valve seat surface. I'm mostly just trying to see if my valves are going to be a problem in the future.

 

I'm going to talk to my tuner tomorrow about it.

 

You can leak down each cylinder and know for a fact whether or not your valves are sealing. Pretty easy procedure.

 

I already did. It was 15% across the board.

 

That's not too bad. Did you listen at the exhaust tip to see if you could hear it?
