Default FI Engine Suggestions

I have been debating over a supercharger but I need to start estimating the cost of the install.

Here is what I am thinking but I have no idea the best way to lower compression.

Comptech or Vortech kit - ECU based tuning no FMU's (I have used them is the past and do not like them over ECU tuning) maybe Greddy's emangae or AEM

Possibly adding the after cooler, has anyone recorded intake temperature w/ and without? The heat of compression from the supercharger should be relatively low, so actual gains would most likely be marginal as compared to other upgrades for the same cost or more boost.

Lowering the compression (here is where I am unsure)
The common way I know to lower the compression without pulling the block is to install a thicker head gasket, Cometic 0.074" seems to be a popular choice. I have traditionally used a cooper gasket and o-ring the head for boost applications though. The other two I two things I have done is to port the combustion chambers which can yield a few extra CC's, can anyone quantify this for the S head. Finally I like to smooth the piston domes, mostly done by removing all rough spots and points to prevent pre-detonation and obtain a few CC's.

I am shooting for about 380FWHP so that I do not need differential work, or a low end.

380FWHP will be VERY hard to achieve.


RWHP will be much easier in general, especailly as you said with no differential work


by the way you can def. run 450wp on a stock diff if ur just careful with it.

porting... i'd skip, this engine is too close to on the money to mess with.

Go for a 2mm cometic. That'll EASILY put you into the 400whp range. 750cc injectors and your good to go. If were talking about removing material from the pistons, its probably not worth your time as you can even run a 3mm cometic if you really wanted to put some serious power down. Still thats useless IMO since you only want below 400rwhp. People have made high 300's on NO gasket. I run a stock compression and 7.5 psi and make 360whp. dynapacked. That's not a well worked setup either. That's easy power.

So your simple solution to keep things driveable is 2mm cometic. NEW oem bolts NOT ARP studs and slap that thing back together DONE.... you'll have your 380whp without a doubt.

You can hit 380 flywheel horsepower with stock compression with a good tune and a supercharger kit. Upgraded boost pulley, injectors and AEM/Hondata etc.

leave the motor stock. if you have access to a compotent tuner, you can make plenty of power without opening the engine.
