Default FI Pistons

Hey everyone. At SEMA I got talking with one of the piston mfg's and we talked about having some forced induction pistons designed for the F20C.

I'm donating a block and head for this cause, I wanted to see if others would be interested in these pistons so that I could give some feedback to guys developing it about the interest in the community. They will likely be 9.0-9.5:1 compression ratio pistons.

Ask them if the rings they include will be compatible with our fiber reinforced metal sleeves.

IIRC, CP, Arias, and a few others have off the shelf pistons already. I'm running 9.5:1 Arias pistons right now. It would always be great to have more choices out there though.

Why on earth would you want that. In stock form the weekest link in our block is the sleeves. Sure you might be able to run extra boost on lower comp pistons, but if you are cracking the motor you might as well do it right and sleeve the block IMO.

Because that's the only thing I've heard of going when you up the boost on the stock motor. I'm sure that has to do with the compression of the pistons, but then why not just use the head gasket and save the time and money of putting in just pistons?

Not to thread jack but Scorpion is right. I'm sure FRM has been mentioned before. You may want to do a search for it. FRM is what the S2k sleeves are made of, not iron. This started with the early preludes H-series and Accord F series engines (B series were iron). Easy way to tell is that if you take a magnet, it would stick to iron, not FRM.

I believe it stands for Fiber Reinforced Material. Correct me if I'm wrong. These sleeve work very well with low friction, low tension rings....this is why we see so many 150k, 200k and 300k accords, prelude and new S2ks out on the road.

At equivalent thicknesses the FRM sleeve is weaker than iron. If you go big boost, go with a iron sleeved block. If you're going to spend the time and build the block build it right with iron sleeves, forged pistons and rods.
