Default Fire extinguisher

My daily job requires me to look at many burned out vehicles (as well as other things) as a result of theft, malfunctions, modifications, etc. Seeing these vehicles and KNOWING insurance will NOT cover a vehicle like mine if a fire should occur, I think its time to take some initiative and get a fire extinguisher.

With that being said here comes my questions:

A) Do any of you have a fire extinguisher in your car and if so what kind

B) Is there a special automotive extinguisher that would specialize in putting out oil / fuel fires (most common for a car)

C) Websites / stores to get them at. I know I can get basic extinguishers at stores but I'm looking for a compact extinguisher that would be used in a automotive situtation.

Thanks

I've discharged a small extinguisher on a burning car and it lasts approximately 15 seconds. Unless it's a tiny fire, that little thing won't do d!ck.

In the time it takes you to get the extinguisher and pop the hood, the fire will be too big to control with that thing.

Just get better insurance. State Farm will cover mods. Depending on your agent you may or may-not have to show receipts.

There was a video recently of a VW burning up that just started with a tiny fire that could have been easily controller with an extinguisher.

My INS says they will cover my mods as long as I have the reciepts but I still dont like the idea of them having the final decision in the matter.

I can say from personal experience, always carry a fire extinquisher if you have a modified car.

A few years ago i owned a highly modified mkII mr2. While driving on the highway a -6an swivel fitting completely broke, spraying fuel onto my alternator. The engine bay instantly went into 15ft. tall flames. Before i could even pull off the highway, the back of my neck was already very hot (mid engined). There was nothing i could do but sit and watch all of my hard earned money and time go up in flames on the side of the road

i can attest to the usefulness of even a small extinguisher.

I was driving to work one day whan i saw a woman on the side of the road with her beater Accord on fire. The exhaust had gotten too hot and had started to burn something behind the driver rear tire.

It was a small fire but there was nothing I could to but watch it burn....until a tucker stopped and put it out with a small extinguisher.

you have to know how to use the fire extinguisher so those saying a small one won't do dick are likely not using it correctly
