Default ford 8.8 with ap2 transmission gearing

Hi,

I was wondering how drivability is with a ford 8.8 rear end mated to the stock ap2 transmission. This is actually for a truck project and wanted to make sure that the gearing isn't annoyingly short or long.

Thanks!

You'll need to post the final drive ratio of the specific differential you have. Ford 8.8's can come with many different FD's. It's also unlikely anyone will have direct experience so it'll all just be a guess based on a gearing calculator.

The 8.8 was built with the following ratios: 2.26, 2.47, 2.73, 3.08, 3.27, 3.45, 3.55, 3.73 and 4.10:1. Only the 2.73, 3.08, 3.27, and 3.55:1 ratios were available with Traction-Lok.

I think the S2000 differential is 4.10:1 if that makes any difference to your application. The AP1 and AP2 gearboxes have different internal secondary reductions which lower the differential ratio even more. Any differential ratio higher (lower number) than 4.10 will cause the engine to run slower at a specific road speed and our engines don't start to produce power until very high rpms.

Not sure the Ford 8.8 inch is necessary for the puny S2000 engine unless you're adding a supercharger.
