Fuel... Meth, Ethanol, and RaceGas... AHHHHH!
Now this had been a long struggle to figure out what is best for my build, budget, convience, and so on for my P-Tuning stock 11:1 comp turbo AP1 build with the final goal of 500-600whp this year but eventually more. I also imagine that alot of other guys out there have had the same struggle determing what is best for their build, budget, and desire. Please feel free to comment about what you think I should do, what you have done if put in the same situation, and/or what you did for your fueling and why.
At first I was dead set on meth. But after several tuners, friends, and internet horror stories I talked myself out of this option. Pretty much im planning on being 500-600 hp all said and done so needed a meth setup to handle those goals. If I would be content with low 400hp range I would stay with the 50/50 water/methanol option for the benefits of cooler IAT and its cost effectiveness. But when pushing the limit of the setup and having stock compression I had to keep thinking since 500hp seems to be the limit of a single nozzle kit... Which is now to the point of needing direct port. So by the time its all said and done the "cheapest" option at first... meth. Now turns out to me a 4 figure venture to do it reliably. So scratch that...
ETHANOL E85/E98... if I were to start all over again and had a clean slate I would have built the car to handle E85. But I purchased the turbo kit used and it already came with ID1000`s and a walbro 255. So not only would I have to change to a double pump intank setup, ID2000, fuel rail, fuel pressure regulator, new fuel line, AN fittings. Not to mention after spending $1000 say on the Ethanol system we STILL dont have any convient E85 stations around so I would have the hassle of driving a hour a few times a month in my truck to fill up countless 5 gallon cans or look into purchasing a few 55 gallon drums for the season.
Which leads me to my current most rational choice... doing race gas. I have a sunoco station 1 mile from my house that sells cam2(sunoco 110 leaded) from the pump for $8.99.... another station 2 miles away that sells 100 octane unleaded turbo blue for $10.99 a gallon... and another 5-10 places within a 20 mile circle that always has race fuel available. So since I just drive the car around town and cruising the occasional tank a weekend I think this is going to be the best bet for the weekend warrior. But how do I know what octane I untimately need. I know running the sunoco standard 110 leaded will be safe for my 500-600whp stock compression but should I start poking around with mixing it. I could easily pre mix the fuel and always fill up at home with a standard 100 or 105 octane after mixing. WOuld doing this make its effectiveness now deminished at the lower octane? My tuner did tell me that you want to run the lowest octane possible to safely have the car run. I.E. theres NO POINT in putting Q16 into my car that will be making say 525 whp when say 102 octane will do the job and also be more cost effective.
Imput, ideas, stories... Ive searched and searched and there is nothing on the web that really goes into picking what fuel is right for your situation.

Ya but its another $1000 in fuel system you have to spend easily to support E85... so take 110 octane cam2 thats available a mile from my house... I pay $8.99 a gallon... so its only $6.00 more a gallon about than E85... or at 10 gallons a weekend $60 more in fuel cost. So I can drive my car every weekend for 16.666666666 weekends... so pretty much on race gas all spring/summer/fall every weekend every chance i spent the same as getting your e85 setup running. So its really compairing apples to oranges at the end of the day. And if I mix it with 93 octane and do a 102-103 octane fuel I can go 2 years for the same price.

well, if your only going to own and drive your car until the 17 weeks is up then sell it go ahead and run that route. but if you intend to keep the car longer then you will realize the savings. and why is a grand in extra parts? you shooting for over 600 on e85?

I hear ya. I realistically want 500whp this year. Hence the race gas decision. But yes I will more than likely next season do a 8.8" rear, 700whp capable turbo, and try to make closer to 650whp. I would ideally love to do my whole fuel system right now and I would buy e85. Actually prolly ignite e98 is cheap enough. But if I spend the money on the fuel system for ethanol I will never have the car done in time for the season. I'd rather enjoy it for the year and Change it next year.

you dont have to change out the fuel rail/lines to make 600 on e85
people have made close to 600 on e85 with 1000's and the walbro 400 pump, or sell the 1k's and get some 1250 or 1450's . 600 would be pushing it on a single 255, in my last evo i was 550awhp on single 255 and 1450's but the 255 was maxed out. 1450's had plenty left
