There are many different variations of the 8.8 housing. I believe the reason the stock one broke on my car was due to the load separation from the ring and pinion. That pressure was too much and it split my oem diff right in half. Here are the guts and the cover off the 8.8 that is in the car now.

The 8.8's still benifit with an girdle cover w/ adjustable preload for the main caps integrated into the cover like this one. Though not to many S's are going to need anything but the basic version of the 8.8.

Are you offering the 2.9 axles w/o upgraded hubs?

Actually the rear cover on the 8.8 is not a beast. Is the ability to put a stonger cover or atleast one of the braces made for it on?
As long as the outer dimensions are the same, I dont think there would be an issue. I honestly think it will be pretty damn hard to break this one.

Do you guys have a price range on the complete diff's? I would assume the 8.8 should be even more reliable than the r200?

I would seriously consider this, however (my knowledge is limited) would I still need a transmission in addition to this? (to drive aggressively with 400 ft/lbs of torque)
Once you replace the weakest link, then it just moves on to the next weakest link. Unfortunately, the next weak part is the tranny.

You can find the stock 8.8 diffs for anywhere between $200-$500 depending. If you need it rebuilt with different ring and pinion / lsd then it would be more.
