Getting F22 shortly. Stick with AP1 trans or go for AP2?
I will be getting an F22 engine for my AP1 shortly. I am debating on going with an AP2 trans as well or if I should just get another lower mileage AP1 trans.
As of now I am at 406whp at 12 psi with my sc kit. I know the AP2 trans will lower the gear ratio for 1-4 gears. Will this hurt my performance?
What do most of you go when installing a new trans that have 400-450 or so hp?
Not sure if the added tq feel of the of the AP2 trans would be worth having shorter gears or not.
I also am planning on upping the boost a little bit and running a boost limiter valve to get some more midrange gains as thats where my car is lacking right now.

Ap2 transmission is stronger, thus superior and the better choice since gearing isn't in our advantage for the ap1 box.
In terms of gearing I found the AP1 isn't a great match for our ap2 engines because the gears that are taller are just the first few gears and we've got the torque to match the taller gearing of the first few.
Just my $.02
Honda did the smart move already on this one.
Now for AP1 Motors, an AP2 box is an upgrade across the board IMO.

I'm in for replies
. I would think you would want longer gears with a boosted car. In the civic community guys go with longer gears and bounce of the rev limiter in 4th (if needed) when crossing the quarter mile.

It depends on what you're doing. Street driving, I'd say AP2 transmission. Harder launches, lower highway revs, save gas. Drag strip, I'd do some research about what gear I wanted to be in to hit the best ET. Road course, I have no idea.

Keep the ap1 gearing. The ap1 gearing is great for the F22c. The taller gears will make it better for gaining traction and pulling power. Plus its great for auto-x, less shifting. Also i leave my buddy's F20c with Ap2 trans for a dig or roll even when we switched drivers, the F22c left me. I've taken full ap2s and walked them as well. If you need to replace, I'd look for a lower mileage ap1 tranny. More power plus taller gears ='s goodbye
Not sure if you would want the shorter gears. Here is my F22 paired with a AP1 tranny and oem diff. Gears are very very short...

Yeah MIT go with another AP1 trans. I do daily my S most of the year and put lots of highway miles as well. I'm sure around town the AP2 trans joule be nicer but for highway pulls etc the AP1 trans I seeing being the better bet!
The added tq of just getting the F22 in will be sweet I'm sure!
