Im doing some research for my dad's s2000 supercharger pick and I've decided to send him towards comptech. Going to keep stock clutch because my dad the pilot doesnt tend to rag ANYTHING out but wants the performance out of his y2k s2k instead of a new car. I've also talked him into putting ssr comp's on his car as well. Also, I was wondering were can I find a well placed fuel pressure and boost guage setup. Also, is there any need for a BBK for some more stopping power on these FI'ed cars? Oh and the install will most likely occur with about 43-45k on the car. Has anyone else installed a S/C or turbo with that many miles on it?
For gauges I'd recommend air fuel (AEM UEGO) and/or oil temp and pressure rather than fuel pressure and boost. If you're not pushing the car much, you probably don't need any guages. Given a choice between gauges and dyno tuning ... the dyno tuning is the better choice.
No need for a BBK with this car even for the track.
Oh and if you do get gauges, the a-pillar gauge pods for the S2000 work well and you can also mount a gauge right above the start button.
Gauge setup in my car which was based on recommendation from someone on S2KI. I like the Defi gauges and controller. Warning lights and tones are nice, but I especially like being able to see peak values after a session.
The engine bay with the Comptech supercharger and aftercooler.
I'd say if it's been properly tuned, the gauges most desirable would be ones like fuel pressure (or EGT) and oil pressure. If you can fit a third, an A:F ratio meter is great to have as well and often available in a non-circular-gauge format which makes it easier to locate elsewhere in the car.
Not sure if the S2k comes with oil pressure stock (more cars used to come with oil pressure gauges back in the day... I wish they still did).
Boost is pretty pointless WHILE you're driving, but can be nice to check peak numbers after to watch for spikes, like on an aPexi unit like the AVC-R (I think it's called) that can show you a plot of your boost throughout a run (but dynopulls do that so if it's tuned properly I don't see why you NEED a boost gauge aside from it being a stereotypical gauge for FI'd cars. You know, so passengers can look at it and go "GEE WOW U HIT xx POUNDS OF BOOST UR CAR IS SO COOL".
