Default Greddy reliability with tune

Hi all

Newbie here, I am piecing a Greddy Turbo kit together and maybe installing it soon to my car. I read on this forum that many good and bad story about the Greddy kit. my other personal vehicle is a full size truck so the S is sort of like a DD. with that said, my goal is to install a turbo kit that will give good low end torque and "Reliable" (Being it's a Honda)

I read on the forum that many people have issue with cracked manifold, boot creep, etc issue with Greddy kit. I also notice that almost all of you have it tuned and the result of the tune is smoother and more power. so my thinking is that if I run the base map, base boost. will it help with the longivity of this kit? Obviously the more HP an engine generated it's going to put more stress on the all of the engine component?

Anyone Greddy turboed S out there still running base map/boost can chime in?

I am not running the stock base map. BUT to be on the safe side make sure you have a boost gauge and A/F gauge so you can keep an eye out. I love my greddy kit. The spool downlow makes driving a breeze. I hardly hit vtec unless I am racing someone as the amount of power pre-vtec is amazing. Good luck on hyour venture hopefully others will chime in

Always have it tuned regardless of wanting power or reliability. There's nothing wrong with running 10psi and making 290-300 whp if it's tuned well

Without being tuned it will be lean in partial throttle and boost creep alot

I always though that the kit came stock with 8psi and the base tune is running a little rich. I wonder if it's because of the reliability reason. Running lower boost obviouse less stress on compressor side but also the turbo side. and I though runing rich will help ease the combustion temperature. Has anyone done an EGT analysis between the tune?

It seem that drivibility is one issue but as for reliablity, the major complaint is the manifold crack, is that correct?

Yes but there is more factors involved, elevation, ambient temp, and as suzuka joe stated boost creep is an issue. I know I have had it happen a couple of times in this cold weather.

Is boost creep largely eliminated w/ the greddy kit via porting the internal wastegate port on the turbo? I've read of people saying that this fixes the boost creep, but does it 100% eliminate it? For anyone getting a greddy kit, this seems like a pretty easy thing to do, if you have a dremel or grinder w/ an air compressor.

I recall reading about how boost can creep upto ~10psi, but frankly that doesn't seem too bad imo, and seems bearable.

On a side note, I've read people saying the greddy kit install only took 6 hrs or so. How are you guys plumbing the oil return line?

My wg was ported on my greddy kit and I had zero boost creep, held 10psi all day long

just run the kit at factory boost (don't raise the boost) and get a tune for reliability and you'll be fine.

I hear greddy is working on a revised manifold. But if you are piecing your kit together, sounds like you aren't buying it new, so you probably won't have a warranty on your kit. Might want to consider reinforcing your manifold or waiting for the new one to come out.

what exhaust setup do you plan to run w/ the kit? stock cat, HFC, or test pipe? what diameter exhaust? single or dual? You might not need to port your wg.

Will be running with HKS hi power with TP. the Turbo WG had been ported.

got AFR, Tru Boost. want to know if it's reliable for about 300 whp?

Yes, it'll be reliable.
