just an update for everyone. some good news and bad. the good news is the car was last making 400 whp and 280 ftlbs of tq at 11 psi during tuning. the bad news is a retainer broke and caused the #4 to drop to 0 compression because of a stuck valve. Hopefully the damage is limited to just that, but we will be checking the cams and valves next. The retainer failed at 4500rpms on the low cam side so this may work in my favor, but who knows. I will keep everyone updated.

I wonder why the retainer broke, could that be caused by a misfire during the tuning process? Also what water/meth setup did you end up going with and what ratio are you using meth?

i have a feeling it was an old injury that may have led to the retainer failing. I can remember overreving it once about two years ago, so this may be the culprit. we went with th aem set up with a 50/50 blend.

overrevving will definitely hurt some stuff, that stinks. once you get it apart you'll know better what needs to be done to fix it

ok so Have been doing some research on a valvetrain upgrade. I am going to stay mainly witth oem parts. The only thing I have a Question on is springs and retainers. I hear lot of talk about the use of ti but my tuner and installer are dead set against it. Is the only advantage of ti its weight and because of this we can rev higher once paired with a set of better springs? Or is it actually a stronger piece compared to its oem counterpart. If so why do Ti retainers need more maintance than oem meaning they need to be replaced more often. Im not really interested in raising my redline because my turbo a 3076r is going to run out of breathing room as i reach redline anyway. What i want to do is strenghten the retainers and springs. Is there a better material than ti or oem for my goals. Im still learning here so please bare with me if this question seems somewhat elementry. Just trying to understand the dynamics of how everything fits together.
