Default Heres my story...need advice

Ok. Hey everyone. Was a member to the site years ago when I got my 02 AP1. Never got around to modding the car. It now has 80k on it, and im interested in boosting it. My car knowledge, well, I know of and about a lot of parts / concepts, but as far as the mechanical goes, lots of learning to be done. My question is, for a low boost setup on a car that age, what parts if any should be upgraded prior to / at the time of dropping a turbo in. The kit im considering is the full race T30 with the AEM series 2. Again, 80k miles on the car. Only mods megan headers, 70mm TP and invidia exhaust. Mild searching turned up no results. This is a starting point for me, going to own the car for very long time. Open to all ideas / thoughts. Thanks so much in advance for any helpful input!

Upgrade to ap2 retainers, change all fluids, new clutch. All I can really think of and don't forget you drive a Honda, 80k is just getting it broke in.

80K isn't anything on this motor if treated right. Listen to the advice above. I'd maybe do a compression/leakdown ahead of time just to confirm that your internals are all in healthy condition. If that checks out, as long as you aren't putting out over around 450whp you should be good on stock everything else (I know you can, and people do run higher, but I'm just talking reasonable safety).

Make sure you have the upgraded oil jet bolts. Do regular maintenance and good to go. These engines last a long time if taken care. As stated above 80k is NOTHING for these engines.

The 02s do have the upgraded oil bolts. It was the pre models that didn't so you should be good on that. Do you have a horsepower goal? Or a expectation of what you want to do with the car?

I highly recommend swapping out to some different retainers. I broke a retainer on my ap1 @ 70k miles and blew my whole engine. Which began my build for power.

Also, can someone direct me to more info about these better oil bolts? I've actually never heard about it and I've studied nalot about the s2k (or so I thought)

Actually all of the earlier 02's had the older oil banjo bolts also, not just 00-01's. My early model 02 had the old ones and had a scorred cylinder because of it, then the later 02's have the upgraded ones.

If I remember right the older banjo bolts only have 2 holes in them and they don't supply enough oil to the cylinder when at higher RPM's, resulting in scorred cylinder walls. The newer upgraded bolts have 4 holes in them and flow better, supplying more oil and helps avoid scorring the walls. You can get them from Honda, or Hardtopguy.

Cylinder 1 (or 4 I can't remember which) is a bitch. The other 3 are pretty easy. Do some searches in the "Under the Hood" subforum. There are a bunch of good threads in there.

and it's cylinder 1 which is a PITA because the oil pump and pick up is in the way. Here is a decent thread on them, I wish the pics still worked though.
