[QUOTE=devs2k,Sep 8 2009, 01:11 PM] I'd say piston velocity, but let's see what others have to say.

Yes, I agree that upgrading the springs and retainers is probably excessive in an AP2 since the sideloading and piston velocity is the limitation. That is unless you upgrade the bottom end, I believe the rod bolts are the most stressed on these high reving motors for sudden failure. The higher you rev any car the faster it will wear out, assuming there is no sudden failure.

Good lookin' out Andy

What is the rev limiter/fuel cut off set at on the AP2?
I think stock its 8200 I want to say. I know a lot of ppl run em to 8500rpm. If you have better springs and retainers maybe 200-300rpm more but really the piston speeds are very high then nearing those rpms.

Lets not confuse, piston speeds is where the f22 has consideration. The head rev limit capability is entirely separate.

My high rev limit is at 9200. I shift at 9000, and have never seen any RPM related failures, and it's not like the car is a garage queen, it gets beat on constantly. Running it past that is pretty much pointless, unless you have aftermarket cams. The stock ones don't make any power past about 9 or so.

is your ap2 bottom end built or stock? if its built then that is kind of irrelevant to this post I just dont want the OP to get the wrong idea and rev to 9k when its not really safe to. id say 8500 max on a ap2 with a stock bottom end. If its built with some beefy internals then party on =)

I plan to rev to 10.5 as long as it makes power to that rpm.
