Default HKS GT supercharger?

So after searching through the forums and of course the omnipotent Google, I can't seem to come across much info on the HKS blower setup. I know that everyone says "just go with a SOS or Kraftwerks kit" but neither of which are positioned in the bay optimally (to me) and aren't exactly 'lookers'. It's already been established that the HKS unit doesn't make the power that the other kits are capable of, but then again, all I've seen is what has come from Evasive themselves, which means next to nothing.

So in the 3-ish years that this kit has been out, nobody has purchased this thing? I know it must sound like I'm dead set on this unit, but I really am just trying to make an informed decision on why I SHOULDN'T want this kit. My application must be daily driver friendly, and be a reliable track warrior. Eventually the car will see heavy track duty (as in time attack competition) and will no longer have daily driver status so I want something that is light, positions the weight well, and easy to maintain. So far, the other kits available take up a ton of real estate under the hood and don't exactly look maintenance-friendly for anything that might need to be evaluated, etc.

Without making this post longer than it already is, does anyone have any information, personal experience or otherwise, that could enlighten me? Someone out there has to have tried this out.

There's a reason that very few people have this kit. The SOS novi1200 kit is cheaper and makes more power and it's also track proven. It's also very reliable. That should be enough of an expiation of why not to consider any other supercharger kit.

I have the SOS kit and can only speak to that. There is full access to the kit components and requires zero maintenance. You're still able to access all areas where general engine maintenance is required.

The amount of realestate taken by the SOS kit is comparable to any turbo application and most boosted applications. It's wasted space best utilized.

Also remember, if/when you have questions issues with the HKS kit, there's little to no support when comparing with the SOS or other kits. The forums and experienced board members here can answer SOS/TTS/Krafworks questions all day long.

Unlike others, I think the HKS kit is a very well thought out kit for a particular purpose. What are you power goals for your car is the only question I think of you didn't answer above. I myself considered this kit cause I wanted something reliable for DD purpose, could handle occasional track use, and meet my power demands. I researched the HKS kit and it was one of my top picks. No much information is available as the few people that have the kit don't post much. I think Trunger is the only member that post frequently with the kit that isn't affiliated with Evasive (not that their opinion is bad, they probably have the most experience with the kit). I looked into other vehicles that have HKS supercharger kits (350 370z and E46 BMW's) and found that the blowers are reliable. I tried contacting a few venders on other forums but never got a response. What steered me away from this kit is power potential. I know myself and I get bored with power easily. The HKS will probably not make more than 400whp which I knew would not be enough for me. I wanted something with more potential for power and IMO, upping boost is simpler with a turbo than SC setup. There are pulley options through HKS and I think a GTM (they work with Z car HKS blower kits often). I think Trunger holds has the highest HP recorded HKS s2000 to date. If you're not looking for a large HP number, I think the HKS kit is a great choice.

My power goals aren't exactly high. Most likely would stay 400whp or under.

I have nothing against going with SOS/Kraftwerks/TTS just doing my homework. Which kits are available as return-to-pan oiling? I know that some are self-lubricating and would like to avoid that if at all possible. Also, Liquid-to-Air aftercoolers aren't exactly my favorite.

New to the platform, but not the game.

I dont know about HKS but since its a Rotrex blower I would assume its the same as KW, so all of the kits mentioned have the option to be engine oil fed, and any of them can be had or converted to an Air/Air fmic set up, however Air/water has proven to be more efficient in making power on Paxton blowers ie; SOS, CT-Engineering, Vortech. Less boost needed to overcome the loses experienced with an FMIC, and that means less heat and more power potential/boost yielded, or less boost, less heat and same power yielded. Just make sure you have an adequate heat exchanger for the aftercooler for track duty. FMIC are best for Turbo applications.

i have owned this kit for a bit now, and i have to say i love it. i have done about 5 track days on it. For Castrol raceway in Edmonton its more then enough because its a short track.
and power wise i do more then well enough against 400+whp turbo cars.

I am also curious about the HKS supercharger kit, I really like it for its practicality on the track and for DD. I dont want to make big power just want to have fun driving around town and maybe once a month take it to the track. Can E85 increase the power? Sorry to thread jack, but thought this was relative to the OP.
