hks ssqv install
well i couldn't wait any longer for pix to post so i decided to figure this out myself. just got it installed today, but havent tested it on the road yet (snow is still melting from that snow storm that hit us in the NE region of the US). does sound good just revving in my garage tho. but 2 help everyone else out there interested in this setup, hope this helps.. thanx to one6 motorsports 4 helping me choose the best application - instead of purchasing the universal hks ssqv, purchase the hks ssqv for an eclipse/talon cuz it comes w/ the adapter shown in the pix. i took it 2 land air assoc. in arlington heights (one6 referred me 2 this machine shop), and thanx 2 john (owner of the shop) for getting the welding done within an hour (i had 2 start work in 1.5 hours when i 1st got there). only was charged $30 for the weld, but gave him $40 for takin care of me rather quickly. he basically shaved off the shaft where the recirculation hose fit on the aftercooler and mig-welded the flange for the eclipse/talon application on to it. only one problem.. i wasn't able to fit my allen keys under the bov where it slants down, so i had to tighten them down w/ lock pliers. well here are a few pix i took, hope this helps..

so for everyone else who already has this setup, where SHOULD the spring setting be at for our application? i would imagine this is kinda tough to check if it leaks at full boost other than revving the engine to 9k (where peak boost hits 4 the comptech s/c; and constantly revving 9k is not what i want my engine 2 be doing while i check for leaks).. any input?

Here is Yeloscreamers HKS orinially, he had problems with it though. The welds kept breaking from the pressure. Last time I saw him, he had two extra metal pieces welded on the sides of the flange. I thought he had pics of it but I cant find them.
I think he wants to simply adjust it to change the sound, one thing you can do to change the sound is buy a bov insert from HKS, that is THE ONLY thing that will change the sound with out changing the literal air mass or pressure. The Greddy valve changes sound when you adjust the spring for different reasons and is a completely different design than the HKS valve.
really no point in making clips cuz u can hardly hear it. i did pm yellowscreamer and he has a j's carbon fiber hood, and he states that it can be heard pretty well thru the hood vents. maybe the oem hood is absorbing most of the sound?.. i dont know. ive tried adjusting the spring all the way up, all the way down, right now i have it set in the middle, yet no difference. but regardless, i feel that i can trust this bov to hold boost more efficiently vs the bypass valve comptech provided. i did this mod mainly 4 the sound, but if that's what yer after i wouldn't recommend it. otherwise, if yer looking for sumthin more efficient that the bypass valve comptech provides, i'm all 4 it. not hating on comptech's bypass valve!! i'm sure it works just fine, but after taking a close look at their bypass valve and the hks ssqv, it just seems to me the hks ssqv will hold boost more efficiently.
by the way, as 4 my previous posts: after looking into how the hks ssqv works on their website, revhi is correct; there is no need to adjust the spring to prevent boost leak. this particular bov will not leak boost, boost will actually help it remain shut..

i just installed my hks ssq bov yesterday , and for some reasons, the it doesn has the whisling noise , instead it just releases air with no sound ? First i thought the bov was messed up becuase i have bought it used. Then tried out a brand new one from a local shop, still does the same !!. So i was just wondering why it does that , because my buddy bought one too (hks) and his sounds perfect out of the box without changing inserts .
I hate this BOV all togther. Under low boost you barely hear it from what I have read, and I have heard this in person under high boost and it just flutters like crazy, which is the most annoying sound in the world.
I'm a big fan of tial since I went FI. The sound of a BOV is cool at first, but kind of annoying shortly after. With the Tial you definitely know its there from in the car, but there is no loud whistling or PPPPPPPSHHHHHHH, just a big KOOOSH of air when you shift. It just sounds mean. I know this is slightly off topic, but everytime I hear an HKS BOV I just cringe.
