Question How do you Break an Axle?

Hey guys,I am dieing to see what my car does 1/4 (Trap speed, not concerned with ET).

I don't plan on launching, and am limited to 10psi in 1st gear.

From what I have read if you break an axle while moving, you are pretty much headed for a disaster, complete loss of control etc..

Question I have is, ( I know anything is possible, I am asking for more common breakage), can you break an Axle from lets say a Roll Race? Here I am fat dumb and happy in a 4th gear Pull and BOOM, game over, (as in life pretty much over)

Just curious, thanks

Pretty much impossible to break an axle from a roll.

Preload on your launch at the track and you should be fine.

I've seen it happen first hand. The Italian S2k Club President in the moutain roads of Italy. We just got off the dyno, and were heading up through the twistys in Trento to enjoy the new power (most fun roads ive ever been on). NA car. Coming off a 180* blind turn up hill. Little oversteer and pop... Snapped passenger side axle.

Buttttt In a straight line, Ive never seen it happen.

You basically have to launch the car to break an axle. Then if you get wheelhop (which is common for street tires on a 1/4 track) that'll destroy your diff.

In your case, with street tires, there is no reason to launch anyway -- you'll just spin

Can't wait to see the results Joey!

I got kind of a follow up question..

Thinking about setting up a proper 2-step for launch the car.

For the folks who's done this, what's the best combo for RPM/PSI/Timing/Fuel for 400+ or 500+ with street tires?

Would 5 psi on a 400HP car be enough to spin the tires during launches so I don't blow the diff? I've not tried it myself yet because I still need to break in my clutch, and I'm kinda afraid to f something up.

What Spec Ops said. Wheel hop is the easiest way to break parts.

is the valve dropping issue just ap1's? ive two stepped my car for three years now, every time i launch, its off the two step. guess im lucky?

JOEYBALLS,, just roll the car off the line and lay feed throttle in slowly. shift slow the first 1-3 passes. as you get more comfortable with the car, launch a bit harder and harder. slipping the clutch off the launch will be the easiest on the drivetrain.

cant wait to see what you do. when you going?

I broke an axle on a 80whp shot of nitrous at the track. The run before that, I did wheel hop a decent amount (I was pissed because I couldn't get traction the whole night so I just kept on it )

But when it did break, it was right at the launch. I was at the tree, went to launch, and heard just a light pop. I didn't even move an inch. I can't be disappointed though since I've had the car down the track for about 200 track passes.

It broke at the joint. The axle itself did not break.

I do have a buddy who actually broke the axle itself at the track. It was in his turbo civic and it broke when he shifted to second. He swung to the right when it happened and let right off. He was close to hitting the wall.
