Default i got a fake walbro!

so im sure everyone has heard about all the fake walbros floating around. well about 9 months ago, i thought i was buying a real walbro off of ebay. i put it in and it ran fine for maybe 1000 miles. but the other night (4am) i was heading home when my car completely dropped all power and shut down while i was cruising down the highway. i checked my Fuel pressure gauge and it showed ZERO! so i kinked the return line in hopes that it was just the regulator that went out.... nothing. then i noticed that the fuel pump was making noises like it was being beaten relentlessly in the trunk. so the next morning i ordered a new fuel pump from a reputable seller (summit racing). when i got the REAL walbro in the mail, i took out my old fuel pump and compared them. here is what i saw.

the real walbro is easily larger, heavier, and has a noticable oily finish to it.

the tops are close to identical

even though i didnt fully catch it, the walbro has the brand stamped on it.

when i looked in the bottom, i saw plastic gears. the real walbro had metal gears... all the normal signs of a fake walbro that i just over looked when the fake came in. now with a REAL fuel pump in the car, im running much better now. just thought id share my experience. beware the fakes and pay the extra for the real deal!

I had the same experience, bought my first one off ebay aswell.
Swapped them over whilst troubleshooting a few things, good as new.

Some dealer on ebay. They advertized it completely as a real walbro 255 but it clearly wasn't. I wish u could remember his ebay name so others would know.

i looked and sadly i didnt leave feedback and neither did they. but btw about the stamped walbro, ive been seeing online now that alot of people are getting fake walbros that have the logo and all stamped on it. they even make knock off HKS ssqv bov's that look, feel, are stamped to be exactly the same as an hks and even come with the japanese warranty card now. but they are knock offs built cheaper and all have the same generic stamped code..... they are getting really good about some of this stuff.

I don't buy anything on eBay anymore.

It's nothing but chinese knockoffs, I'd happily pay a couple more bucks and see hard working shops here get it. Not only are you supporting them, you are supporting america.

Sorry that sounds cliche, but it's worth it to me to know I'm not falling victim to someone else.
