definitely true! In the 8k miles i've driven with the IAT lines removed in subfreezing temps to 100 degrees with near 100% humidity, i have had my car die on me twice and had the idle act weird maybe 3 times. This is not for everyone.

I wonder if it would matter if the car was tuned w/the lines disconnected?

Your tuning wont matter when the valve is stuck, or starting to freeze.

is there a DIY link to remove the coolant lines from the intake manifold? I am going to do this as well

The IAC is on the side of your intake manifold. 2 lines going into the sensor.

Remove them, pretty straighforward as far as I can see.
