Still finishing up my (re)build. We were on the dyno the other weekend starting some partial throttle tuning when we ran into some issues. One of the issues was a loud ticking/tapping sound coming from the motor. My tuner decided to pull her off the dyno incase we had a serious issue.

We were able to work on it again last night...my tuner came over with a stethoscope and listened to the motor (various areas) at idle. Surprisingly (luckily) he said it sounded like the injectors. To be safe we pulled the valve cover to do a visual inspection. Everything looked fine, so we dug further by removing the cams and cam trays/carriers (not sure exactly what they are called)....still everything looked fine (big relief!)

So are the ID2000's really that loud? I was running the ID1000's last summer and I remember them being semi-loud (with the same ticking/tapping type sound), so it kinda sounds the same as last year only amplified. Very noticeable even in the cabin of the car.

I've changed so many things at once, so I'm very paranoid. Would my motor being built/sleeved help amplify the injector sound?

Thanks in advance guys
Scott-

Can you show me a picture of the allen bolt on the middle front of the head that holds the cam gear in place?

Mine seem pretty loud. Hear the ticking if that's what you're referring to

Yes, the "ticking" sound. I heard it with my ID1000's but these 2000's are much louder.

Can you hear yours while in the car driving?

Looks to be seated all the way, sometimes the washer on the front of the cam gear doesn't stay in place and it causes a tapping/clicking noise that's quite loud. Any videos of the sound of are you too scared to start it?

I actually was too scared to start it until my tuner came over. After inspecting the valve train (again) and verifying that everything looked ok, my mind is at ease a little.

Going to try and drive it tomorrow for a bit (weather permitting and no front bumper) so can get a video clip then.

Nice!...I guess between my exhaust and stereo I'll be able to drown out the sound
