I want 300WHP with good low end torque with SIMPLE, RELIABLE and CARB regal... (Not 600+ Dyno Queen)
I was waiting for root-type SC(BRP-StageOne-FlyingMiyata, FFW) or Axial SC. Both SC kit seems take forever to finish development.... Greddy turbo kit is there, but turbo is not simple as SC or NA(in long term).
Now InlinePro, NA 2.5L can make around 270WHP (possibly 300WHP?). Is InlinePro 2.5L NA better (simpler, more reliable, less expensive, and CARB regal) solution than BRP-SC or AF-SC?
What do I need to get reliable 300WHP with 2.5L NA? In other word, how much do I need to spend?
Here is Dyno chart from S2KI (not the latest)

I have to point out that the 263hp dyno from Inline would be a fully developed system. Wlaurent has only recently gone FI and I expect his 316.7 is very early numbers (and it's still 50hp more!!!!).
Added to that a 2.5L short block will set you back $5500 (is that core exchange or outright?) and involves work swapping the engine (lots of work!) and downtime.
Aus is right fi is still best bang for the buck, NA route is always more dollar per hps. Your best option right now is Greddy turbo kit, I dont how reliable but it is nearly CARB legal.
From what I've seen, there's no way you're going to get a stroker F20C to pass smog. You'd more than likely just pass the visual inspection...but once your car is strapped to the dyno and have your emissions tested under a load, they'll FAIL you right on the spot. (In California, that's the way they perform smog tests nowadays...not sure about other states though.)
I live in Nashville TN. For smog test, they plug cable to ODBII at idle, this is all. In this situation, How much mod is ok? (sorry this could be too basic question)
I love NA stroker setup because it can look completely stock! It also has minimum parts that can fail. After enjoying good NA HP, if this is not enough, I can add inline turbo kit later for killer HP! If I buy Greddy turbo kit or BRP-SC kit first, I have to sell lot of used parts to install new parts...
Late night reading, and I came across this thread. You want straight power? Turbo. Don't waste your time with a sc'er. This comes from a guy who made 397 rwhp with a Comptech.
You want reliability? Leave the car alone. You're in the wrong forum(s).
That said, I have had zero problems thus far with my stroker. At the track, "You're not sc'ed?" is usually heard after the first session. Whether you go stroker or FI, an EMS is necessary. In our case out here, we have seasonal changes in the weather that necessitate different tunes.
Do I have to worry about belt tightening? No. Do I have the extra weight of the sc'er up front? No. Do I have that whine from a 3" pulley anymore? No.... and damn, I miss that!
Not sure why one cannot get a stroker to pass emissions? Between tune and the cat, what makes you think it won't pass? You can run an NA motor leaner than an FI one.
What kind of compression are you running with your 2.5L NA? and why? InlinePro has few choices on their web.
How much do you re-gain by seasonal EMS re-tune? I though closed loop EMS can take care of seasonal weather effect... I used to work on 13:1 NA Datsun 510 with Webber but no experience with EMS tune...
