Default inlinepro setup looking for air filter options.

I have the sc61 turbo on an inlinepro setup and the air filter is basically coming right off of the turbo housing. Has anyone routed piping into the engine bay to get the filter away from the turbo heat and the possibility of sucking up water down there?? I would just like to route it into the engine bay a little more. Pics would be great but dimensions of piping and sizes would also help. Thanks in advance.

Here are some pictures of two setups I have used. The first one is an old setup and the second two are current.

why not build a head shield and keep the filter where you can get at it easily?

From a power standpoint there is no difference between the two. With the first picture setup I got a lot of compressor surge and the filter would blow off on max power dyno runs. When we switched to the second picture setup the surges went away. Go figure.

I'm not sure that has much to do with your air filter and other components upstream of the compressor. It looks like there are more differences between the two setups than just the air intake alone.

When I did the swap to the colod air intake shown in the last two pictures everything else about the engine was identical. And the surges stopped. Since then I've changed the engine along with a few other things and that is what you are seeing in the pictures. I should have posted this picture:
