Intro & my first problem
Hey guys,
I am new to the s2k scene over here. I have been looking for one for a while and finally jumped on a supercharged one that I bought here about a month ago. I really do not like buying an already modded car but it was a good deal and my plans were to supercharge an S anyways.
Well I had a problem the other day. I was driving my S on the e-way I noticed the check engine light came on. I then looked at my guages and noticed that my temp guage was all the way up. I quickly pulled over turned the car off and waited for a tow truck.
The eway is only about 1 mile away from work and when I jumped on the stock temp gauge had about 5 bars on it. I drove maybe a total of 5 miles on the eway by the time I pulled over. Right before I noticed the check engine light and temp guage, I noticed a splash of liquid on my windshield on the drivers side. At first I assumed it was the car I passed cleaning the windshield. After i pulled over and popped the hood, I realized it as coolant. As I looked, the coolant seemed to have sprayed out an the top of the reserviour. All the drivers side of the engine bay was sprayed and some liquid was on the floor toward the front of the car.
After I got home I popped the hood, filled radiotor with some distilled water and checked for leaks. The radiator was still almost full but the reserviour was almost dry but no leaking. I let the car idle for about 15 min and gave it gas occasionally. Temp gauge stayed low and the fans never turned on as well.
I am a little baffled as why the check engine light came on. I have done some research on here and have read that there are not sensors that click the check engine light on. That it only comes on for maintenance. Thank god it came one because other wise I would not have seen the temp gauge. I just do not know why the car does not get hot now at idle but the temp guage was way up on the eway the other day.
Sorry for the long post. Any ideas???
I do have a .75 Headgasket and ARP headstuds and Hondata K Pro.
I am sure my headgasket is fine, I just wanted to through out what is on there.
I am in Chicago in case there are any good meets here, I would like to see some more FI S2ks here.

You can pull the code. Also...why are you letting the car run at 5 bars period? The car should never see about 3 MABYE 4 after a hard run. 5 is too high.
Sounds like your fan relay is bad if your fans arnt coming on. Which is your reason for the car heating up. Do this...go start the car, let it warm up, cycle through, do whatever. TUrn it off, let it sit for the night. Go out in the morning and SLOWLY take off the radiator cap...if there is still pressure you have a problem. Either your Thermostat or Headgasket.
Ninja edit: Thought i read you were running AEM.

yah, chefj is right when you overheat a car usually your hg goes bye bye...I hope that you wuold be lucky and not have that problem, but it is more than likely...and hope you didnt warp your head.
Thanks for all the quick replies.
I went out to the garage and started the car up. Ran it for about 15 min. and still no sign of it heating up. Also no more check engine light, it was only on that one night. Oil does not seem milky at all either. I am getting some white smoke but that was only while it was warming up until it came about 6 bars on the temp gauge. Im not sure if its just some condensation in the exhaust pipes or the cold, it is also about 45 over here in chicago.
Other things I did notice, heat works but not super hot. Fans never turned on as well. It never seemed that the car got hot enough which seems very odd to me. 15 min is plenty of time for the car to get warm at idle and some low revving.
I cannot seem to duplicate the problem I had the other day. The car is on jack in the front, not sure if that causes any different behavior.
I also thought that 7 or 8 bars was n.o.t.
Also about the headgasket being gone, it was only a quick amount of time that the car ran hot. I am not sure how sensitive these headgaskets are. I have been looking at the signs, but its hard to determine of the small amount of white smoke and the heat not being super hot are actual signs or just my paranoia. Any other way of checking the headgasket without pulling the head off?
Weather is supposed to break tomorrow and be nice all weekend. Only bad thing is that instead of enjoying hte car I will be working on it.
I have a plx DM-100. I see that I can read water temp on this gauge. Are these pretty accurate? That is the one gauge I need bad and want to know what do you guys recommend if the dm-100 is not good enough.

MY2005=AP2= 8 bars when at N.O.T.
Also your HG is probably toast now. Pray its just the HG and your head isn't warped.
