Default Just honed the Laskey block to 87.5mm

Got new pistons and the sleeves honed to 87.5mm (scuffing on one of the sleeves).

Is it ok to use the stock head gasket?

UPDATE: Yes, it's ok as measured by member: Jaundice @ 87.8mm and has been successfully used by previous members on 87.5mm dia bore.

Does honda sell a larger gasket with their oversized pistons? BTW, how did your motor get scuffed?

Real street, yes please pm me where to paypal, thanks!

Passman, SoulCoughing: I started hearing a slight "knocking noise" after my last dyno (with Mase) LAST YEAR. I stopped driving it. At first I thought it was valves or injectors... after talking to to Mike from Laskey (I asked him to tear it down last month), he said that my #2 and #3 pistons got too hot and the the skirts had the "black death"

All the bores from Benson were consistent so it wasn't a clearance issue. I got my ID1000 injectors flow tested, they're good. my pump is also good (since only 2 pistons went bad), I figure it was "possibly" the tune :sigh: maybe too aggressive on 91 octane. I'm not pointing fingers and I know nothing of tuning except what I try to absorb through these forums. I guess it filed under the "gotta pay to play" category.

So the is OEM gasket EXACTLY 87mm? Do they not have any allowances for honing?

The reason I'm asking is it's been a year from when I said I wanted to "do it myself". But with 2 kids under 4 and lack of confidence, I finally paid a (friend's) shop to put together the long block for me....so he did last month.

I just thought of this issue last night. I couldn't sleep so I posted this.

I guess I can replace the head gasket myself. I have the motor on a stand, it shouldn't be too hard right?

I don't, just the craftsman mechanical. Which digital torque wrench should I get?

EDIT: Also which torque range as I see a lot of different ones and is it a good idea to get the 1/4 or 3/8 drive?

BTW, I have ARP studs, forgive me for not searching; Do you guy know the torque specs off hand? Do I need special lube from them to do it?

Last question: If indeed I need to replace the HG again, do I have to resurface the deck? It has not been started, just torqued to spec sitting on my engine stand.

Thanks again everyone.

Thanks passman! yeah man those snop on Torque wrenches start at $400

I just got a text back from my Mechanic. He said that the OEM gasket does have some room for. I think I still have my old one somewhere. I'll take a caliper to it tomorrow and post the findings for definitive info for anyone else searching

Thanks again you guys for the quick replies!
