S2000 Forced Induction S2000 Turbocharging and S2000 supercharging, for that extra kick.

Just an idea, anyone tried this?

Default Just an idea, anyone tried this?

So ive been thinking lately about exhaust systems because I'm basically at the limit of my stock exhaust (370whp). I've had cars before with exhausts and truthfully I dont mind noise when im on the gas accelerating but when im just cruising and the exhaust is loud as hell that drives me mental!

The other major factor is cops are A-holes around here and will ticket you for any exhaust that doesnt look stock pretty much...(happend on my del sol)

So basically im pretty sure with a turbo setup the more free flowing the better correct? Right now ive got a 70mm downpipe into a 70mm testpipe attatched to the stock exhaust. I was thinking of running new 70mm piping from the test pipe to the back, eliminating the stock resonator and that L shaped extension crap from the stock exhaust, and then finally before the exhaust splits into a Y at the back of the car I was thinking of putting an electronic exhaust cutout. This is so I can switch between having full potential hp for any crazy driving or track runs I decide to do and can switch back to the stock exhaust while cruising, see a cop etc. haha

Any thoughts? Will my car just sound like a piece of crap? The straight exhaust on that 700whp s2000 out the side of the fender didnt sound all that bad other than the baitness of it all, with this I think that could be avoided?

What do you guys think?

I was thinking of using something like this and mounting a switch in the car if I decide to do this

from some of the reading I have been doing, it would seem you would have to tune the car to with the cut out open and closed and then be able to switch maps on the fly. I guess if you had the wrong tune on the wrong setting you could risk engine damage. but I am not 100% on this just a thought

as long as the car is tuned at all possible loads/rpms, then it wont matter whether cut out open or closed. cut out open will allow turbo to spool sooner, maybe make more boost in the long run. either way, just tune with cutout open, scale map, then boom, with cutout closed, less boost down low, but already tuned. not a big deal. what will wind up happeneing though, is yoiu will like the car so much more with cutout open you will drive most of the time like that, and it will be louder then just doing a full exhaust. the electric cutouts hang low, and can break from the high heat they are subjected too. my buddy had two electric cutouts, first was ripped off the car when something caught it, the second broke from heat. and there expensive

Its a little more tricky than that.

You'll run the risk of ruining A LOT of o2 sensors.

Also - get a cutout that has good reputation, cause I've seen those things snap and fall off from just all the vibrations and extra power during shifts.

for a while I think every SRT4 on the planet had an electric cutout, at least down here I like the idea since you could cruise around all quiet during normal driving but still have the option for more power when you want it.

personally I'm just going to get something like the asura that's relatively quiet to start with, then get a resonated test pipe on top of that. between the turbo itself quieting the exhaust a little, then the test pipe and dual mufflers I think it'll be ok and then I won't have to mess with a cutout.
